Motion Sickness

Ok I have a big question to ask those that want to do the rides but get motion sickness. You see my dd I do believe may have motion sickness with some rides that she wants to really do but I'm unsure of what I should do. This will be our 1st trip and I hate to tell her she can't go on them when I know she will really want to try them. What do you do or what remedies do you use? I have thought about given her gravol or maybe even using those metellic bands. I'm also going to talk with her dr to see what he suggested we do? But I would love to hear what some of you have done and if it helps?

I get motion sickness but I haven't had a problem on any of the rides, it's really weird. I get nauseus in the car (even the front passenger seat) sometimes when other people are driving, I get nauseus on planes, I did ok on my cousins boat when he was driving but when we were just sitting.....I was green. I got dizzy once on the carousel when I was pg but that's the only time anything on a ride has affected me. But I haven't and probably won't go on Mission: Space. I go on all the roller coasters, the tea cups etc w/o problem whether I use my Sea Bands or not. A tip for the tea cups is to focus on something inside the cup while you spin it. If you don't look around outside of the cup you won't feel bad.
For motion sickness I use Sea Bands. They are cloth bands (think old 80s sweat bands but much smaller) with a plastic button in them that you position on a pressure point on your wrist. They're about @10 at a drugstore and they work great. There are no side effects like with medications. A midwife reccomended them to me during one of my pregnancies.
Thanks as those are somethign I saw in our CAA office and was thinking that those would probably be good to use but was unsure how they work. The price was right and if she didn't want to use them on all the rides we could take them off. Thanks for the info as I appreciate anything that other people have used as advice as I'm willing to try anything that may work

I used them when I was pg too, they were great. Shoppers Drug Mart used to carry them also, the only thing is they need to be fairly tight fitting and I can't remember if there are various sizes or one size fits all - which may not be tight enough to work for your DD.
The other thing which works well are Ginger Root tablets (also in Shoppers I think)they won't make her groggy like Gravol might and are said to be more effective.

Thank you for this info as you maybe right about the tightness. I woudl hate to buy somethign that may not be tight enough for her wrist. As for the gravol I thought they had that in children's strength also and didn't realize that it makes you groggy. I'm learning more about these kinds of meds more and more

They do have Gravol in kids strengths, but even so, some poeple find it makes them a bit groggy.
Do you have a Shoppers Drug near you? I find the pharmacists there are pretty helpful if you ask them for advice, and you may be able to take a set of Sea Bands out of the packet and check the fit.

I get motion sickness BAD on anything like roller coasters, simulators, turbulant airplane rides, etc...
I found the seabands didn't work for me (I used them on our Disney Cruise) but Dramamine does.
Are you sure she'll get sick on the rides?
Rebecca
Thanks for this info as I'm not positive but she has gotten sick in the car a few times. As for the rides she has been on one at our local carnivals which is like the tea cups and they spin and she doesn't care for them. I may just see how one of the first rides goes and then decide if she needs anything but be ready with something just incase this is going to be interesting as this is a first for all of use
Tina
Interesting as who would of ever thought that green apples would help with something like that.
Thanks for the info
