I've been an on-again-off-again lurker at this board for quite awhile! DH and I are huge Disney fans... We've been to Disney World 6 times together, with and without children, including on our honeymoon and a few years later, with our 4 mo. old!!! I have 2 adorable kids: ds is 6 and dd is 3... We are planning a trip for next July.
We haven't been to DW since 2003 (waaaaay tooo long) and want to make this trip a memorable one. We are planning on going for 10 days and we want to stay at the Contemporary--at one of the rooms that faces the Magic Kingdom. This will be our first time at the Contemporary. We've always wanted to stay there and be just a walk away from the Magic Kingdom...plus, ds LOVES the monorail and wants to stay there because the monorail goes right through it! Are the rooms nice? I know that they have recently done over some of the rooms....are those rooms readily available? Are they much more expensive than other rooms in the main building?
Is it possible for me to reserve a room this far in advance? We definitely want to have a package, including the dining plan, tickets, airfare, etc. We are AAA members and want to use the AAA discount...Does anyone know if we have to make our reservations through a AAA travel agent, or could I just call down to Disney and make the reservations myself and still get the discount? We recently went to our local AAA office and were not impressed by the travel agent. I've made reservations myself in the past and have been happy with the results, although not this far in advance.
Any advice is appreciated!
Claudia

Welcome!
You can make room only reservations as far in advance as 2 years. You can make package reservations as soon as the rates come out for the year in question. For 2007 they should be out late fall.
Wow! Thanks for all of the info! I was remembering, as you wrote about your experience with Hurricane Francis, that when we were in Disney on our honeymoon, Hurricane Bertha came through! It wasn't too bad though, and didn't affect our trip at all!
One quick clarification...So I could call and reserve a room 2 years ahead, but in order to get a room as well as a package, I'd have to wait, right? I couldn't reserve a room now and add a package to it later, could I?
I've worked with AAA travel agents in the past, and all were better than the one we ran into this last time! She didn't have a clue and really annoyed my husband and me. Anyway, AAA gave us a very nice booklet with packages listed that included the discount. I think they are the same packages that Disney offers (room, meal plan, tickets) but the prices reflected the AAA discount.
You've gotten me quite excited about the renovations! I'll definitely have to push for a renovated room when I make the reservation... On which floors are the renovated rooms??
Thanks again!
