packing food--suitcase?carryon?
| Mon, 10-02-2006 - 3:53pm |
I'm just getting back from school today, & had a teacher tell me NOT to put any of my food into a suitcase, but to put it in a carry-on. For anyone who has flown recently, did you do this? I have goldfish, granola bars, fruit bars, & grips--cheese crackers. I was going to put them in the suitcase, but will do the carryon, if that is "better". Thanks!

I have always put my food into a suitcase. That way, I had the extra space for souveniers on the way home!
Maybe it depends upon the food and how fragile it is. I've never had a problem though! Personally, I try to carry on the least amount possible. It's easier on me, and keeps me out of trouble (who knows what might be considered "illegal" to carry on, spur of the moment???).

Especially these days when the airlines have big restrictions on what you can carry on, I would think packing as much as possible in your checked baggage would be more sensible.
My sister always packs her fragile/crushable stuff in plastic tupperware type containers and that works well.

Is there any concern about food that is in foil type pouches? I'm thinking of poptarts and some of the granola or cereal bars.
There are a few days we are having an early TS lunch and we would like to bring something quick and light to get us going on those days.
If any one knows if this type of packaging is okay or a problem please let me know. I'd prefer to pack in the checked luggage.
