If I go to get a spot for the parades 1 hr before they start, can I be pretty sure to be in front? Should my whole family plan on sitting there for the hour? Following up on my foot pain issue with the line waiting, today I bought a little fold-up fishing stool for $5 from Sports Authority that I plan on sitting on while I wait for the parade! May be the best $5 I ever spent ;o)

You can "sit" in your parade spot. I haven't been in July in many years, and we didn't do the afternoon parade (I don't think we did) the last time I was there in July (1992), so I can't say for sure that you'd get a front-row spot, but we are always able to get a front-row spot in the off-season going a half hour early. We stake out a spot with ice cream and sit until it's time.

Yes, your whole family needs to be there because people will just move in up until (and even during) parade time.
