parent swap

i've heard a few people mention parent swap.
a few years ago i tried to use it and the cms were not very nice, they wanted to see the child that couldn't go on the ride and though my daughter was 6, she did not want to go on the rollercoasters, so what they did is give me a fast pass.
now a friend of mine just got back and mentioned that the parent swap is that you all wait in line, one parent goes on and then the next.
can someone clear this up for me?

Because the queue is set up differently on each ride, the rides all have different policies for how it works at their attraction. So far we've only used it at Soarin and I asked the CM what their policy was and they give you fast passes for the second parent and child to ride. The first parent and child get in line (or use previously gotten fast passes) to ride, when the ride is over the second parent and child go through the fast pass line.
We are just back from WDW and are baby swap pros.
Now, I have never had an issue with kids not wanting to go on rides, just with them being too small. They do ask to see the whole group though. No biggie, as we are all usually together.
Now when we were there last week you had to go up to the CM that is at the entrance to the fastpass. They will hand you a babyswap pass and tell the first riders to go get into line. Then when the first group is done the next ones get into the fast pass lane with the ticket and upto 3 other riders.
Here's the kicker from last week. None of my babyswap passes were collected. There was an expiration date on them...happened to be for our last day there. So we used the same swap passes over and over and were never questioned. I don't know if it was luck that this happened or what the deal was. Lines where short anyways, so it didn't matter much.

We've used baby swap a lot.
We were at WDW from Sept. 8-17 and used parent swap alot.
so is there an age limit?
It will be me, dh, dd (8) ds (3)
so for instance, I will want to go on, say big thunder mountain, and that is not a good ride for ds, will i be able to use this parent switch? or is this just for people who have babies?
or how about Pirates of the Carribean, where it could scare a 3 year old?
Or do I just ask at each ride?
sorry, I think I'm more confused than before.

I think it is a height size issue that they go by for the baby swap. So if your 3 year old is too short to ride rides, then you should be able to get a baby swap.
Last year for our April trip DS 3 was tall enough to ride ToT, when 6 months before in October he wasn't. He was too young to go on ToT even though he was tall enough. The CM seemed pretty reluctant to give us a swap pass for that ride.
I seem to think their "guidelines" lean towards size not scare when handing them out. But again, we have had different situations at different rides.
Maybe it depends on how busy they are too. Who knows.
I guess you just have to try it and see.
Good Luck!

It is size based.
It's not just for babies, and if a CM

That was the only one we asked and were refused.
