Planning around Holiday activities

Since our Dec trip will be our family's first, we are trying to plan "enough", but not "too much". The girls are going to be 3 and 9. I've been watching for the December calendars to be posted on Disney's website, but nothing yet. We make our ADRs on June 18, so hopefully we should know the EMHs for each park and maybe a holiday schedule by then?
For those of you who have been around Christmas, what kinds of special things should we expect or try not to miss? We have a 6-day pass, so we've got plenty of time to schedule the good stuff.
Any thoughts?
Oh- and originally we were going to stay at Shades of Green, but we decided to switch to POP to take advantage of the transportation & the dining plan.

Most of our trips have been in December. We love the holidays at Disney!
For us, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a must. The day we have party tickets (a non-weekend day, usually Tuesday), we visit Downtown Disney in the morning and early afternoon. MK will let MVMCP ticket holders in at 4 pm, and the party lasts until midnight, I think.
If you have some free time, visiting the resorts on the monorail line is a good way to get in the holiday spirit. The decorations are amazing.
The Candlelight Processional at Epcot is lovely, but my kids have never been interested. Yours are young, so I'm not sure you'd want to sit so long for this. We watch it standing outside for a bit though, and it's very moving. The countries in the World Showcase at Epcot are decked out beautifully.
The Osbourne family lights at MGM are amazing! Plan an evening there if you can. Lights AND snow.....a big hit with the kids.
My son and I can't think of anything holiday-wise that is of particular interest at AK. Maybe someone else can chime in there.
We will most likely be headed back this December, but we never know until the last minute (depends how the cash reserve looks in our business)....I can't imagine making plans in June! That would be nice. I do not think the "speicals" calendars will be out that early at all (like for the Christmas party), but I'm not exactly sure when you'll know EMH and such. Hopefully soon, since I think the calendars are up through October now.
Have fun planning! :)

My oldest is dying to ride the monorail- and I hadn't even thought of the decorations along that route so that's a great suggestion.
I just hope we don't end up chasing our tails by getting ADRs on opposite ends of all the action. My parents are going along, so we have to be careful with our plans for them too.
Thanks Laurie!!
I think the calendars come out 6 months ahead of time. So, for Dec they will be released the first couple of days in June. That should give you about a week to figure out which days you want to go where before you are eligible for your ADRs. Have a great trip! I'd love to go for Christmas decorations. I have been fortunate enough to see some of them several years ago and would love to get to see them with my DH. We are planning on going during the holidays after the kids move out. They are 5 and 2 right now, so we've still got a few years, LOL.

One of our favorite holiday activities is listening to the storytellers in the various countries in Epcot World Showcase.
The Jingle Jungle Parade at AK is also great fun. The floats are great!
