Planning first DW vacation

Hi,
We would like to start planning our first DW vacation and are planning to go the end of Nov. early Dec. Can anybody give me any suggestions on where to stay for a family of 6? The Wilderness Lodge Villas appeal to me. I like the idea of a kitchen since my children have a lot of dietary issue. Although we do plan on dining out as well. I know there are other Villas as well.
Can anybody tell me if the time we are going is a good one? And any advice for places to stay? I also heard you have to make advance reservations for dinner. What are the options for places to dine with characters etc? Thank you so much!!!

Welcome!
You have come to the right place!
I have heard great things about the Wilderness Cabins/Villas. I have not stayed there, but many ladies here have.
As far as character dining, it depends on what characters your kids are into. allearsnet.com has a list of everything and it is a very valuable source that we use here.
November/December is a nice time to go. I would imagine that after the current promotion that is running is done booking (june4th) they might have what the next deal is since the current deal is through September 30th.
And yes, making reservations for a character meal is a must.
Have fun planning!

That time of year is awesome!! The Christmas decorations are out and the crowds are low (as long as you're avoiding the Pop Warner Super Bowl crowds, which is around Dec 6 or so). I'd been in early December 4 years in a row and can't wait to go back again! The only time I ever saw crowds at that time (before the PWSuperBowl came to Disney) was the weekend after Walt's 100th birthday in 2001 (a huge media event with Regis & Kelly and many celebrities). We did Downtown Disney on Saturday and Magic Kingdom on Sunday. On Monday, the crowds cleared and it was slower on Mon, Tues, Wed than it had been the previous 2 years.
Here's a list of character meals: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/cb.htm
I'm not going to be any help on resorts because I've never had the opportunity of staying on-site, so I'll live that for the experts!
Happy Planning!

Are you looking at this Nov/Dec? If so you'll want to book now since options are limited as it is with a family of 6. How old are the kids? If one is under the age of 3 then your options open up a little bit more. Best value for your money are the Fort Wilderness Cabins (my families personal favorite!). Disney has also just opened up this coming week, Family suites at the All Stars, but I am having one heck of a time getting any availability on them for early Decemeber.
