Planning our first trip in Jan/Feb 2012

Hi all! new here. We're thinking about an Orlando trip end of Jan/beginning Feb next year. We are hoping to do both Disney World and Universal. I was thinking maybe staying at a DW resort place for 3 days, then a Universal place for 3 days. I know you could book a hotel in Orlando, but I'm wondering if we'll save time/money to stay at the resort? Or is it overpriced and not worth it? We will definitely be on a budget, we're going to be skimping and saving pennies from now til then anyway!

Just looking to see if that is a good idea, or if it's more economical to land in one hotel and rent a car?

Thanks in advance!

I think there are many ways you can think about the hotel/car situation, so it really depends on personal preference.

The first thing I thought of was how old are your kids?

Thanks for all the responses!!

We have a bunch of Disney/Orlando books checked out from the library (now we just have to find a time to look at them after the kids are asleep!). It's so overwhelming to me to plan all this. But I'm trying to remember my kids are going to be thrilled no matter what. We live in Iowa, so Florida weather in Jan/Feb will feel AWESOME to us! LOL

I forgot to say the boys are 9 and 7. So they should be tall enough to ride most all the rides. Although our youngest isn't a big fan of rollar coasters.
