Question about restaurants/eating...

Hi, we're going to Disney for the first time in 2 weeks and I am in over head with trying to plan/pack! LOL "We" include myself, DH, ds(6) and dd(9 months).
I have not made any ADRs because I just felt like our schedule would be too unpredictable with the baby. How hard is it to just walk in somewhere and have breakfast, lunch or dinner without an ADR? I'm talking about average eateries, not special character dinners or the really popular restaurants.
The first half of our stay we are staying at the Sheraton Vistana Villages (doing one of those "listen to our time share pitch inexchange for a practically free room for four nights..." I know they don't really have a restaurant there, but the "villa" will have a kitchen so we will grab some groceries and probably do breakfast there for the most part. But we'll be in the parks for lunch and maybe an early dinner.
The second half of our stay we are at the Beach Club Resort.
It just seems like everyone plans every last meal down to the minute and has ADRs for everything. What happens if you don't? Is it impossible to eat? Maybe I'll lose some weight on this trip. LOL!

With the popularity of the dining plan it is next to impossible to walk up
Hi! I would also strongly recommend making some ADRs now. If you don't end up wanting to go that day, cancel or change them; at least you'll have a guaranteed place to eat. DH and I went to WDW the first week of February and people without ADRs were being turned away at each restaurant we went to; all of our dinners were close to or at the restuarant opening time, and they just didn't have any room for walk-ups.
Hope this helps,
Steph
I second making an ADR or two just in case. However, if you do find yourself wanting a bite to eat, and you can't get in to a sit-down restaurant, there are several very good counter service restaurants with healthier options. We love Tusker House at the Animal Kingdom, and nearly every counter service restaurant in Epcot is good! (we like the food in Morocco, the pastries in France, and we always liked Sunshine Seasons in the land). Good counter service is hard to find in MGM, but a friend of mine just got back from her Easter trip and said that the pizza and salad deal at Pizza Planet was very good! In the Magic Kingdom, we've always liked Cosmic Rays (rotisserie chicken!) and I hear that Columbia Harbor House is good too. Then, in Downtown Disney, there is Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Pucks Express.
It is possible to find more than just burgers at WDW counter service restaurants! Look at the menus at www.allearsnet.com

We did the ADRs but we went during spring break-one of the busiest times of the year.
I definitely agree with the pps that you should make some ADR's so you have something to work with. When you stay at the Beach Club are you on the dining plan? If not, then I wouldn't worry too much because you can always eat at the counter service restaurants if you need to. All of the parks have several counter service options and the hotels all have one counter service restaurant. The food quality may not be as good as some of the table service restaurants, but you won't starve, lol! A few of them are even quite good, like Tusker House. The Beach Club has room service too, so that's another option when you're in your room.
Have a great trip!

Thanks for the replies! We are not on the dining plan and frankly, my son is so picky that counter-service might be a better option for us anyway (unless I am really going to force the issue and ruin vacation, he will probably eat a lot of pizza and chicken fingers) When we are at the Vistana Villages I think we'll probably do breakfast in the room, lunch at the park, maybe snacks, etc, then dinner might even be best back in the room where I can make him scrambled eggs or something.
As long as there are enough choices for counter-service and THOSE aren't crazy crowded, I think we will do ok. DH and I would love nice sit-down meals, but this vacation isn't really about us.. we primarily want it to be magical for ds. I'm glad to know there are plenty of options at the Beach Club.
I will take your advice and make a few ADRs that I think we may be able to keep and we'll see how it goes.
Thanks so much everyone!

Check out menus here:

Lots of places the kids menu has some sort of "chicken nugget" and pizza or mac & cheese.
We were at DW during Spring Break and even got a ADR at 9am in the morning for Biergarten at 12:30!
