Hi again ladies,
This time my question is about whether to order stuff online before the trip...or wait until we're there! Because I don't want to waste precious time at the parks shopping (particularly at the beginning of the trip, which is when I'd like us to have these) I'm considering the extra cost of shipping and the extra hassle of packing/bringing them in...but will they be available at my All Stars Music resort gift shop??
These are the items we'll definitely be interested in:

Mickey Ears Youth for DS8
Epcot Passport

I'm also *considering* a Pal Mickey (but concerned about the price!) and already heard from someone here that I can probably get that at the gift shop...

Needless to say I'm on the strictest of budgets (and trying to pack super light, to boot) so that's why I'm thinking of this now!

While I'm not against pre-purchasing souvenirs (I have before), those 2 things I'd probably wait for and here's why:

For the ears, let him see them and pick out the ones he likes best in person, it'll make it extra-special since it's from there...do it during a down time in the parks.

For the passport, it is way too easy to purchase these. They have them at the 2 main gift shops walking into the World Showcase and every country has them, most at these little cart gift shops, some that rarely have anyone in line to purchase anything. They probably have them at resort gift shops, and other Epcot (Future World)gift shops, too.

The particular items you mentioned I would wait to purchase. Especially if you're on a budget. The places I have seen online that carry the park merchandise have an unreal mark up of nearly double the price they are in the park.

My oldest daughter never wanted the regular Mickey Ears that you can get embroidered, she wanted this fuzzy headband Mickey ears (that we still have and she wears 7 trips later!). Her little sisters got the standard Mickey ears with their first haircut, and they like them, and my oldest considered getting some herself after that, but decided to stick with her headband. I agree on letting your DS pick them out. So since it's been a while since I looked at the price, I'm going to go by memory and say that they were under $10, $8 sticks out and then the cost of embroidery.

Epcot passports, like Aly said are at the gift shop outside of the park, one of the kiosks outside of the park, the main store Mouse Gears and in all of the countries. They're about $10

Pal Mickey is everywhere. You can't miss him. I don't know if they're still renting him or not, but for a while you could rent one for a day and then if you decided to purchase him just pay the difference. Ask at your resort gift shop if no one here comes back to verify.

I agree with the others...wait and purchase there. There are so many different types of Mickey ears, he may want to pick his own. My DS7 (almost 8) picked out his first pair at the age of 3. He picked a ball cap with Mickey ears and a Mickey face on it. He still wears them, and wore them on our past 3 trips! The hat is a little more practical than the plastic ears.

Have fun!
