Questions about Park Icons... (M)

Does anyone know if they are keeping the Sorcerer's hat in MGM (BUH? LOL!) permanently? I like it. It's so, um, 'there'! IMO, MGM really needed a focal point in the park.

I also like the Mickey hand and wand attached to the Epcot ball. I 'think' they had just installed that the last time we were there. I didn't remember anything attached to the ball the first time I went to Epcot in 1989.

I really like the four icons used in their logos. It really ties the parks together for the 4 park / 1 world theme.

Just rambling,

Susan

well unfortunatly the BAH and the hand on the Epcot ball seem permanent. The hast is ok, but it needs to be moved, where I don't know, but somewhere else, the chinese theatre was a much better "welcome to MGM" then the BAH. The earful towers was a really cute icon, but no one could ever really see it from the park, so it wasn't as much of a focal point as the castle or spaceship earth or the tree of life. The hat also brings more *disney* to the park than it had before.

The hand on spaceship earth (which I am getting used to but still don't like!)was put up for the millinium celebration and said 2000. They covered it for a while and speculation was that it was being taken down but alas, they just touched up the sparklies and changed 2000 to say Epcot (like we didn't know what park it was! lol) so it's apperantly there to stay. As long as they never ever cover the castle in pink icing again (1997 for the 25th birthday), or TP the tree of life I can deal with the BAH and the Epcot on Spaceship Earth. I have the icons saved on my computer and I put them on all my disney stuff. :o)

When we went in early 2001, I guess they were revamping the wand to say Epcot. I didn't think it was there in 1989.

Thanks for answering my post. I'm a bit of a marketing/advertising buff, epecially when it comes to Disney. The creativity that goes on within the Disney organization facinates me!

Thanks again,

I pretty much agree with Sonya.

I would like to see the hat moved in MGM, the wand at EPCOT should come down and the castle should NEVER be pink again (I still get "ill" thinking of the way it looked).

Catherine,

Did you ever read the reports about the cancelled weddings at WDW when the brides found out the castle was going to look like a Birthday cake? I can't remember where I saw it but I think it was somewhere in the numbers of 1200 weddings were cancelled that year (well 18 mo) because of the cake castle. The ones that were still held at the wedding pavillion over half of them requested the castle NOT be in their pictures. I'll have to try and dig that up. I can imagine a lot of angry brides!

I know I would be "miffed" if I had planned (probably for years) to get married in front the castle and then found out it looked like a cake. LOL

I cannot imagine whatever made them do that in the first place. Bet it does not happen again, I don't know if anyone liked it.

I know ONE person who absolutly LOVED the cake castle. She said it looked so pretty and Disneyish and was completly cool....... Yes she's off her rocker on a lot of things. LOL but she's the ONLY person I have ever known who's seen the cake castle (even just pics) and liked it. So yep, I'm betting it doesn't happen again.

Well, I hate to go against the trend, but 1997 was my very first trip ever to WDW, & I was excited to see the castle, whether it was pink or not! (Although I do like it the normal way!)

When I went, I didn't know if & when we were ever going back, so I loved everything about every part of the parks!!!

So, I can understand it not being liked... it was a rather pepto bismo (sp?) shade of pink!!!

But I just had to share!!

(those poor brides!!!)

Susan, I am glad to hear someone else likes BUH besides me, so many people don't like it. Unfortunately I heard they would be taking it down sometime this year, of course that could have changed. LOL
