Questions about seeing AK parade.....

We haven't seen any of the afternoon parades EVER, and I'd really like to next year. My problem is trying to figure out how and when to see the JJ parade at AK. It's our tradition (two-time tradition, going for a third, I guess, lol) to start our AK day at Donald's before park opening. AK is just so hot, and it's going to be this time next year, so how do we make it until 4 for the parade? We're usually completely done, too hot, and ready to leave by 1 or so. It doesn't make sense to go back to the resort then come back to AK, it's so far away, or at least it seems like it is. I don't know about arriving later in the day, like noon or something, would we be able to get anything done that way? Our thing is always to arrive at or before opening. If we do something else in the morning, then go over there around 3 or so, will that give us enough time to find a spot? Were is a good spot to watch from? Is it worth the trip out there, since AK closes around 5 or so?

In the summer hours AK closes around 8 depending on when sunset is so you do have more time there if you wanted to make it an afternoon trip. Even in the winter when the park closes earlier we always do AK in two trips because it is hotter there. The vegitation is so lush that the humidity at AK is higher making you hotter.

Wow! I didn't realize that AK would be open so late!! I was just checking the calendar and June is the best month for AK (as far as length of day) b/c it's open til 8pm most nights; looks like 7pm and 6pm in July and near 5pm in August. Interesting!!

Sonya, you gave me a great piece of advice for our last trip when we wanted to visit AK in the afternoon just to see the parade.

I remember you telling me that! I thought it was so funny! I'm just weird like that. There are some places I know so well that I can picture it in my head either 2 dimensional like a map or 3 dimensional like I was walking through it. Then there are other times/places I get so turned around and backwards I can't tell which way is up! At Disney for example I could walk you blindfolded through MK, AK, Epcot, Fort Wilderness and the Contemporary Tower.I've got Disney Studios and Down Town Disney down with a map but there's no way I could get anyone around the streets of the 'World' without the transportation map! Now, Chris?, he could drive you around the streets in the world to the point that you have no clue where you are but he does and you'll get where you need.

Thanks Sonya, that helps! The heat was a big factor in my problem, staying from opening to 4 pm would be hot! I do have one afternoon, or possibly our arrival afternoon that we could go over there, but I didn't realize they were open later than 5 during the summer. Also didn't know there are kidcot stops at AK!
