Quick Visit to Disney in a few weeks!!!

Hi everyone!

I haven't been on the board lately, as we sadly haven't had any Disney Trips on the horizon... but I just decided this week that I'm taking the kids on a quick "psuedo-Disney" trip later this month!

My sister, who lives a couple of hours from Orlando, is about to have a baby, and since I am in desperate need of a Disney-fix, we are going to stay there for a couple of nights when we go to visit her. DH isn't coming, so I promised no parks, and no meeting Mickey (since our youngest has never been to Disney at all, he doesn't want to miss the big "firsts") But I am SOOO excited just to be going at all! It's been almost 2 years, and last time I was 6 months pregnant.

We are going to stay at All-Star Movies, and spend a day at Downtown Disney. (DH doesn't care for Downtown Disney, or the value resorts, so we are taking advantage of his absence!) DD (Lily - 8) is going to the BBB, and we are going to have dinner at 1900 Park Fare. I was surprised and relieved to still be able to get ressies at both of those on such short notice! My parents will most likely be joining us, and possibly my sister and her newborn too, depending on how soon she has the baby and how she is feeling by then.

Hi Jaime! Good to see you over here and happy to hear you get a mini Disney fix! Downtown Disney does have the carrousel and train still plus a few little fountains (if it is warm) and the Lego store has a play space where you can build. There are tons of new Lego sculptures too (allears did a piece on it a few months back!) We stayed at ASMo in 2009 when Gabi was 18 months with my niece and nephew and the kids all had a blast! I have some great pictures of the kids with in the Toy Story section that I love! I hope you have a great time and enjoy the time with family and the new baby! Report back if you can. :)

Good to see you here!!

Sounds like a fun trip - good for you!
Not sure what to say about the ME tags - we've never used it. I guess I would call them soon to inquire if you'll receive them in time. Sonya anwered a question not long ago I believe saying that regardless of having the tags, as long as ME has you registered, you should be fine.

We had a non-parks visit a few years ago and it was fun to figure out ways of experiencing the magic without entering a park gate. My youngest got sick on that trip so we didn't get to do everything we planned - like our BBB appt with a dinner at 1900 PF :( but we did go mini-golfing (we've tried both courses and they're both cute), had a few character meals at the resorts, went to Hoop Dee Doo, Clara and Alan rode surrey bikes around the resort and played in the arcade :) Another great place for playing outside of the parks is the Boardwalk area - lots of great places to eat, including Beaches & Cream (yummy sundaes! LOL), there are magicians that put on shows there, surrey bikes, and at night you can see fireworks :)

Something fun at DTD, design your own tee (http://land.allears.net/blogs/jackspence/2009/01/disney_designatee_1.html ), get a caricature drawn of you/your DD. Go into the Christmas shop and see if you can find the "12 Days of Christmas" signs - it's like a scavenger hunt! :) Just for kicks, take the boat from DTD to either Saratoga Springs, OKW or Port Orleans. We've chickened out of taking the balloon ride there, Characters in Flight. I forgot about the fun fountains when you first enter the Marketplace - my kids still love to get wet there!

Ah, weather - it's very possible to go swimming in March - I saw people swimming in January, at night!!! The pools are heated and you may have some nice warm days so definitely bring bathing suits and keep an eye on the weather forecast.

Oh I forgot about the Boardwalk area, that might be fun too. I don't think I've ever actually been there, but my parents have and they enjoyed it. I was already thinking that we might do a little resort-hopping just to look around if we get bored, didn't realize you could take a boat from DTD to some of them - that's cool! Not sure the balloon ride sounds like my thing - (I have this fear of not having solid ground under me!) but I bet my dad would take DD on it if we have time.

It sounds like we will actually have plenty to keep us busy and we'll even have to make some choices. Our flight gets in at 1pm, so we may have a couple of hours that evening, but DD seems set on staying at the resort and swimming/exploring, but we will see. And then I was planning to leave pretty early the last day to head to my sister's... but we could make a stop or two on the way out if need be :)

As long as the pools are heated I think we will be fine to swim - even our "hot" summer days when we swim here are dry and windy - I doubt it will feel any cooler there, as long as the water is warm.

How fun! I'm sure you'll find plenty to do. We went last summer and stayed near DTD and ended up swimming at our resort for HOURS one day. We thought we'd do more Disney, but we just relaxed instead.

March should be warm enough for swimming - depends on the day. It's supposed to be 90 there today/tomorrow, but 65 on Sunday. (I was thinking of popping down for the weekend, so I checked the weather.)

You could do a water park, too, if it is warm. We love Blizzard Beach, for the kids. (Prefer Typhoon Lagoon when it's just DH and I.)

Have a great time!
