Rent a stroller for the week or by day?

My youngest two will be 5 and 6 when we are there in august, and although our stroller is coated in dust, i imagine we will rent the double strollers not so much for them but for our own sanity. I can't handle whiny kids... get in the stroller, and stop whining.

We decided instead of bringing ours and lugging it in and out of the buses to and from the hotel, we will get a park stroller. We have park tickets for 6 days and when you do the math for a double stroller... that's a lot of money. Oh well. I just need some tips on how to do it.

Should I see how it goes and then get a stroller when we need it? Or march right in on day one and get on for the entire week? What if we don't use it every day, can we get a refund? Any thoughts? I really haven't thought about strollers in 2 or 3 years!

I love the tip of tying something to it so you can tell it apart from all the others. Still haven't come up with anything yet, but i'm looking!

Thanks.

Now my kids are 21, 20 & 15, so I haven't thought about strollers in an even longer time. But would a 5 and 6 year old fit in the seats? Might they not be too tall for it, and therefore uncomfortable?

I live in Philadelphia, and the Philly Zoo rents coaster wagons for kids this age. I've also seen parents using them at the Jersey shore towns. Does Disney offer that option?

Believe me, I am renting an ECV (scooter) for myself, and I KNOW I'm going to get some whining about sharing it, especially when they are tired themselves or carrying souvenirs that seem to become heavier as the day goes on kwim LOL?

The strollers are big enough for 5 and 6 year olds. Many people do the same thing. I believe it is a little cheaper if you rent it for the week. If I remember correctly, I may be wrong, it cost us $40 for the week. It was also easier because we didn't have to stand on the paying line each day. They just stamped our ticket and off we went! Was nice.

I took a cheap umbrella stroller for my DD, even when she was 8 years old. It gave a nice place to store the sweatshirts and water bottles, even if she was kind big in it. I figured if nothing else, I would throw it away at the end of the trip. You can get them at Wal-Mart for $13 and leaving the park after a busy day and getting back to the hotel room is when it came in HANDY. I am exhausted after a busy day and I imagine it is so much more so for little legs. There was no way I could carry her at that point. The umbrella strollers fold up real easy and are pretty compact, even on the busses. Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip. Lisa

Thanks Lisa, but I have a just 5yo, 6yo and 9yo. I really need a double stroller. We have a jogger but it is too bulky and huge to bring on and off the bus multiple times every day. I don't want to buy another cheaper double stroller just for this trip. I'd rather have the larger, sturdy, easy to push rental at the parks. It's expensive, but I don't see an alternative for pushing my 6yo who is 60 lbs, my 45 lb 5 year old and the occasional 9yo who is 74 lbs!

LOL.

Hi Laura,

IMO, being able to move around the parks faster and not have whiney, tired kids make the cost worth it.

I find the strollers to be a huge pain in the rear, so we never offered one after the kids were 4, and they never whined or needed one. My vote is to try one out the first day, decide if you really need it - and go from there. I second the PP who said that a stroller may not be necessary at MK or MGM, but moreso at AK and Epcot where things are so spread out.

Wagons are not available at any of the parks....just strollers. Wagons are nice, but they'd be hard to control in a crowd and probably unsafe for kids (falling out on their heads).
