Rude People at DISNEY???

What would you do in this situation???

I am lucky enough to live in Central Florida. I have a friend who had some OLD tickets and wanted to know if they were still usable, so I took them to the guest relations booth at DTD to find out. Granted it was taking a while, but not my fault, and any time I had been there in the past, there's never been a line. Well, this guy gets in line behind me, and after a few minutes, he comes up to me, interrupts the cast member I'm talking to and says, "Lady, how long are you going to take?" I was speechless for a second, and then smiled sweetly and said, "Until I'm done." How would I know how long it's going to take the cast member to figure out if these tickets can still be used??? To me, being rude at Disney seems sacrilegious. I guess some people have experienced that before, but I never have, and I've spent an unusual amount of time there! Anyway, all turned out well, because my friend can still use her tickets!

Blessings,
Maria

We experienced a rude CM at Disney. In Feb 2004, we lined up for Peter Pan & Wendy. About 5 minutes after we lined up, the handler (a rather old man--probably in his 60s/70s) called out that no one else could line up (we were already lined up as was a family behind us). Then about 5 minutes after that (the family behind us had decided to leave in the meantime), he pointed out the family in front of us and said "This is the last family in line." I POLITELY said, "Sir, we were in line when you called 5 minutes ago no more could get in line." Instead of politely saying, "Well, it took longer than we expected and it's time for them to go," He YELLED at us...telling us it was 15 minutes ago that he said that and we had JUST gotten in line. He made Aly cry (she was 7).

I should've reported him, but I was too upset and had a crying child to deal with.

Thankfully, in our 8 trips, that's the ONLY rude CM we've ever encountered and we've had some really go out of their way for us and others!

No Chicken Pox is still around, my daughter had it last year.

She hasn't been vaccinated but in any case the vaccine doesn't mean you won't get CP - only that it's likely it will be not as severe, the vaccine also doesn't confer a lifelong immunity like the full blown version does, so it's quite possible for people to get CP later in life instead of as a childhood disease.

IT pops up out of nowhere too sometimes, so it's possible the child wasn't spotty until they got to Disney, but I agree that it's crass and not in the interests of public health to take him out and about as normal once the spots arrived.

You are contagious before the blisters show, but also until they have all scabbed over.

Shingles unfortunately can come back and back.

It's a leftover from the Pox that sits dormant on a nerve somewhere - often on the stomach or head but it can be in other places and will just flare up at some point for many reasons (stress is often a factor)

It can be very painful.

UNfortunately, I tend to think Disney brings out the worst in people!! They figure they are on vacation so they can do and say whatever they want!! We have run into sooo mnay rude people there, it just drives me crazy! It seems common courtesy also goes out the window as soon as you enter Disney grounds. I have a handicapped daughter and we get more crap while loading/unloading her on the busses or just using the handicapped entrances--which are not usually shorter waits, people! I try to just let it roll off my shoulder but sometimes it is just too much!

Wow, I'm sorry you had to go through that while just trying to give a 'normal' vacation experience to your daughter! That's not fair and says a lot about the bad aspects of our society, IMO! Do you ever say anything back to those people, other than just ignoring them? I heard or read once of a parent that said to someone (in a respectful tone) "if you'd like to trade my child's autism for your place in line, you have a deal!" The person that had been rude at least then had something to think about...
I'm not saying it's always necessary to speak up, or even react at all...you obviously have enough on your hands caring for your daughter. Just wondering what could be done to educate these people! FWIW, as a bystander even I'd want to say something if I witnessed a situation like you described. Sheesh!

When you go to Disney often, you are going to have more chances to run into the "It's my vacation and I can do what I want" people.

I have actually used that same line on more than one occasion..now I tend to just write them off as ignorant and not worthy of my time and I just ignore them. :-)

The virus that causes chicken pox & shingles is loosely realted the one that causes fever blisters.

While it is common to have chicken pox once and never have any other problem, the virus lies dormant within the body, and as we see, can 'wake up' any time, tsk. Can apparently do it more than once or twice!

In peace,
