My four-year-old son was granted a wish through Wishing Star Foundation and he wished for a trip to Disney World... well, his first wish was for a PONY!

Someone who used to post here (quite a few years ago unfortunately) stayed at Give Kids the World (another wish granted).

I'm not sure how far back the archives go, but I'll try to find anything that will be helpful.

I hope that he has a magical time!

That is wonderful!! I have not been there, but we met a family who was staying there on our last trip and they raved about it. I hope you all have a fantastic time!!

If you dont mind me asking a personal question, how did you go about getting your wish granted? I have a daughter with a reapired heart defect and Down Syndrome and have alsways wondered about places like that. If you feel more comfortable, you can email me at chucktrish@adelphia.net

Thanks!

My heart goes out to Noe and all of your family.

Bring your own stroller. The strollers there are really uncomfortable, but do the job for those that just get tired. For someone who will really NEED it, bring your own comfy stroller for him.

Also, if you rent there, you won't have a stroller once you're out of the parks since you have to turn it in before leaving. So, you won't have one to get through the parking lot and all. Might not seem like much of an ordeal, but trust me, it is!

Here's more specific information on the strollers:

The Mouse For Less website does a lot with Give Kids the World. http://www.themouseforless.com/community/givekidstheworld.shtml If you click on the links from that page, there are some pictures, etc. and they do a weekly newsletter. HTH

Janet,
Thanks for all the information!I think I will look into it. People have told me we should look into it before & that Caitlyn would qualify, but I always thought it was for terminal patients.

I think I saw your post above on the stroller question. Caitlyn is 7 and even though she is small for her age, she is too big for regular strollers. We have a Convaid Cruise Air which insurance paid for and it works our great. The only issue I had with it is the seat belt did not offer enough restraint for her since she is very mobile and has no regard for safety at all and will dart off in a second..We have 'lost' her many times and it is very scary!! I bought an additional clip made for car seats and attached it and it works great. Do you have an 0-3 type program in your area? Our Area Agency helps us out with items we need to purchase for Caitlyn that insurance doesnt cover so that may be an option for you. In terms of buying one or renting one, I guess that all depends on whether you are just going to use it there or at home too. I know the Disney rentals would not work for us since there are no restraints, plus we use our stroller at home a lot for Caitlyn and it helps out a ton at the air port. Maclauren also has some sturdier strollers but they are pricey. I just bought a Combi for my 4 y/o and I liked it a lot since it folds up very small like an umbrella stroller but it is not as sturdy as I would like, but it is much cheaper. That may be a good option for your son since I think you said he was small for his age.

Have an awesome trip!! I think those programs are so great!!

I work with a friend who has a 3 year old child who had (in remission now!) a neuroblastoma - a very aggressive stomach cancer. He was granted a wish. According to his dad whose opinon I trust, it was the trip of a lifetime. The place was AMAZING, they took care of everything and treated their son and all of them like KINGS!!!

Here is some info from the Perkins website if you haven't seen it...they are big sponsors...http://www.perkinsrestaurants.com/community.html

Have a fantastic trip!

My oldest ds just turned 5 on Thursday, and these were his favorites:

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
Meeting Buzz, Woody, and Jessie at Al's Toy Barn in MK
Meeting Woody and Jessie at the MK in the Diamond Horseshoe
It's a Small World
Everything else in Fantasyland except Snow White (scary to him)
He really enjoyed Epcot, he rode everything there I think except Mission Space of course. He did ride Test Track with DH and loved it. He also liked making a mask in the countries and Spaceship Earth.
All the characters
Spectromagic parade

Now he's bored answering my questions and he went away, lol. I'll try to remember too:

He liked getting a haircut in the Harmony Barbershop on Main Street last year.
He liked Star Wars the first time at MGM but didn't want to go again.
He liked Philharmagic but not the other 3-D shows
He liked riding the busses and the monorail, lol.
All the character meals, even the princesses.

That's about all I can think of right now, I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Steph
