Spray bottle - fan thingies at WDW

So has anyone bought one of those mister-fan bottles at WDW? What's the attraction; is it the water, or the fan, or both together? I have some dollar store plastic mister bottles, would one of those fill the bill if we put ice water in it? That always helps at little league games. I'm not sure whether the fan adds a lot of cooling value, or whether the batteries run out quickly, just making the thing more heavy.
Just curious -- I think we'll stick w/ a dollar store version in any case.

I don't know what the attraction is, we haven't bought any so far. Our WalMart has some that are very similar, except they don't have characters on them, of course, for $4.99 or so. I thought about picking some up at WM for our trip next year if it's something I think the boys would like. They asked once or twice last trip, but we distracted them and that was it.
I'm cheap, I know.
IMO, (for us), it was a lifesaver. A friend who had gone before us ended up buying the ones in the park which are either $17 or $18. She told me about it, so I went ahead and got the $5 ones at Wal-mart. Best $5 I've spent in a long while! It of course was also on average 95 degrees each day last month that we were there. It also kept my 3 yo busy when he became cranky and tired :). Like you, I was also worried about the batteries and the weight...the batteries were never an issue for us who used it every day, (a lot). We had 5 day hopper passes. I actually bought 2 of them to avoid fights, but as we were there, I realized how heavy they could be, and just took the 1. They learned to share b/c I didn't want to deal w/carrying the extra one once the older ones were done with it!! LOL
I'd say definitely take it, and just have an extra pair of batteries on hand.
The nessecity of it really depends on the timing of your trip and how you deal with heat. For our Dec trips it isn't nessecary at all, for our May- Sept trips it isn't *nessecary* but it sure does feel good. They stress my dh out though becuase he's always worried that Kait will spray/mist someone else with it when she's getting herself or her sisters. LOL I told him in some of that heat & humidity other people are probably secretly begging to be sprayed!
I also bought two of those one year (I think I got them for our 2002 trip) at Walmart. They are so much cheaper than in the parks. One thing you could do (which I never thought of until recently) is stick your own Disney stickers on the bottle to kind of "personalize" it. As someone else mentioned, it kept my then 3 year old DS busy while he was in his stroller. He loved playing with the fan. We also ended up only bringing one into the parks with us, and my kids shared it. My youngest was more into using it than my oldest.
They both have the little personal fans too....they got them in their Easter baskets from our friends. She purchased them on clearance at the Disney Store a few years ago. They light up when you turn them on.
My feeling on the mister fan was that I'd rather have a cheap one from Walmart than listen to my kids beg for one in the parks. When it's really hot out, you'll see them everywhere, sitting in ice, and they are really tempting!!

I have to chuckle because we did not see
LOL about your DH and afraid of her misting it toward the crowd. We have never had a need for a mister (Dec & Feb trips), but Mike will NOT let me bring a mini bottle of bubbles because he is afraid that it will annoy other people in line. Every time we've seen others doing this, it certainly didn't annoy anyone..lol.

I need to finish my trip report!
Anyway we didn't watch Spectromagic until our last night. We staked out a place in line about 20 minutes before the parade. Our children stood behind the people sitting on the curb. Anyway it was very humid and hot and of course no one wanted to sit there. I pulled out the bubbles. It wasn't quite dark yet and it was fun. The castmembers playing with the children in the street kept looking around for where they were coming from. I would say take them. It passes the time........
We bought one because the one we got at Target broke and the Walgreens didn't have one.
a friend of mine told me about the Wal Mart ones which I finally found. (they are in the electric fan section of the store...not where I ever would have thought to look!) They were $4.99 so pretty reasonable...especially since I'm sure everything at WDW is overpriced!
We ended up taking them to the zoo and they were worth the $4.99 just for that trip! The kids loved them, they kept us cool(er) and since each kid had one, no fighting over them! You can mist yourself only, fan yourself only or do a combo...
In regards to the batteries, our kids ran them literally all day and they never ran out. I put them away and haven't gotten them out again so I don't know if the batteries still work but even if we did have to change them, it's still worth it IMO.
