Steam Train Tour

My 6 year old ds is a train fanatic. I looked in to the steam train tour and was disappointed to find that it is for children/ adults 10 and older. Are exceptions made to these rules or do they really stick to them? My ds has Asperger Syndrome (at the mild end of the continuum) and trains are his "thing". He really does have an adult-like understanding of them. He could sit for hours watching instruction videos about trains, documentary-type shows, etc. and he already has a collection of Lionel trains. I am sure that he would be absolutely engrossed during this tour. (My DH would go with him, of course). Do you think they would make an exception? Is it worth calling to see?

I think it is a liability issue more than attention span? Or I could be wrong. My now 6yo DS would love this now. Not sure if he would when he is 10. They should have a modified tour for smaller ones.
I know they take you in the back by the "round house" and everything. The tour looks so cool.

From what I have read, they are pretty strict with the ages on any tour that goes to any part of backstage.

Thanks for your responses/input! I am going to give them a call later this week and see what they say... It's worth a try I guess! I'll let you know what happens.

Well, I called and they told me that it was indeed a liability issue and they couldn't allow ds to go on the tour. Oh well, at least now I know!

I have no idea...I did have to give the kids' birthdates when I made my reservations today, but I don't remember them being on the tickets on previous trips. I guess if you have a child who is close to 10 and looks 10, you'd probably be okay. My ds doesn't look 10, though...so I'm out of luck.
