Thanksgiving trip?

I'm seriously dying for a trip to Disney!  I can't believe how much I miss it!

DH does NOT agree, but he says "have fun", so I suppose that means I have permission to go with the kids.   :)

I was thinking Thanksgiving, since we'll have a 5-day weekend.  I know it will be busy, but touringplans says 6-8, depending on the day - surprisingly - I thought it would be busier.  Does anyone have any experience with Thanksgiving at The World?

We'd drive (10 hours each way), because I just can't justify the $1000 in plane tickets for a last-minute trip.  And we'll stay offsite (prices are surprisingly reasonable right now).  So, just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

What would you do?

It's been a while - but we went for Thanksgiving in 2008, 2009 and 2010.    It was crowded.    But I enjoyed the holiday decorations, etc.    It was worth it to me - especially not having to cook.   :D    I can't believe this year we are actually going to be home for Thanksgiving and people are expecting a turkey dinner.    :(

We followed the usual touring for us, rope drop and leave around noon and enjoy other things in the afternoon.    Arcade, pool, dtd, etc.    One year we were there - I think 2009 - MK did close down sometime in the afternoon due to capacity.   But the other parks didn't.

We have been the last two times during Spring Break, and I was surprised to find the crowds seemed even thicker at SB.    With the school districts all varying over when their SB is, I thought it would be spread out more.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a good time.

I have never been over Thanksgiving but I would take the kids in a heartbeat if DH was not interested and the budget and timeframe worked for us! It seems like you guys have been all different times of the year so Thanksgiving probably won't be much worse than other busy times... I can't wait to hear about your plans and trip if you do make it!!! ;)

Well, we're still thinking it through. Or, I am, I guess (since DH isn't involved). I finally found our tickets - took several days! And found out that Megan and I (and DH) only have 2 days left on our no-expiration tickets. So I'd have to buy tickets, too. Which makes it much more expensive than I originally planned. Humph! I really want to get some things done around the house on that long weekend, but maybe DH could do them while I get the girls out of his way? Not sure that DH would think that was the right kind of "help"... :)

Did you decide?  I vote yes LOL!  We did it back in 2010.  The crowds weren't bad until Wednesday, and we chose DHS that day which is small, so the crowds seemed even worse.  We stayed at our resort on Thanksgiving day and went to Universal/IOA on Friday to see Harry Potter world.  It wasn't too bad over there except HP, of course!  I would definitely go back at this time of year.  Loved seeing Osborne Lights and wished that we had gone to the Candlelight Processional which started while we were there.
