toddler & preschooler, MGM shows & MK...

i'm rethinking my whole freaking itinerary now because we're less than a week away (yippie! but i think i'm starting to get nervous!)

anyway, the more i'm thinking about it, the more i'm realizing that MGM may be our kids favorite place w/ the Bear/Blue house show, Little Mermaid show and Beauty/Beast show... any opinions on that? My kids are dd (3½yo who LOVES princesses) and ds (21 months) who loves all the characters...

we're staying 11 days and now i'm thinking we'll do MGM early in our trip so that we can revisit if the kids want to (i wasn't going to do it till late in the trip)... since we're so limited to what we can do with the kids (we're not planning on splitting up or baby swapping, etc), we want to fully take advantage of what is there for them.

i was thinking MK was going to be the highlight for them, but maybe not?

OH, and anyone know when the shows start? I remember reading here something about 11am? Was that for MGM shows? (i'm too lazy to do a search, but i will if no one knows)...

thanks!! Liz

My dd was almost 5 and ds was 26 months. I was thinking not much at MGM for them because there's no real rides. But yes, both of them loved Beauty and the Beast show and Playhouse Disney. I could see you going back for that one. If you're there that long I'm sure you have park hoppers so it could be worth going to MGM just for a repeat of that and then the rest of the day at another park. There's also the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground but we never made it there.

They may enjoy eating at SciFi Drivein because you sit in a car to eat. We went to the 50s primetime cafe. Of course my kids didn't really get the themeing but you can get some good real food. I think the kids had pb&j and grilled cheese. I had a great potroast. And the atmosphere is still fun for them. I think there were 3 bdays while we were there and everyone sings happy bday.

I'm sure they will love the MGM shows you mentioned, but for little kids nothing compares to Magic Kingdom. I would do MGM early in your trip so you have the option to repeat at least these parts if they really love them. Also see the Muppet 3-D show at MGM... it's cute and DD (4) always asks to see it.

Liz,

I expected MGM to be our second favorite park after MK, but it didn't work out too well for us (my girls are 7, 7, 5 & 2) I felt like we were always waiting in line or crossing the park to make it to another show. We got to see the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the beast, but not playhouse disney because my girls just couldn't wait in another line! At the other parks the lines move more continuously. At MGM you stand in line until the doors open, so a 20 minute wait seemed much longer in MGM than MK. Don't get me wrong - I think that you're kids will enjoy MGM, but I think MK will be the favorite by far!

Just had to add my two cents!

Have a great trip!

Mara.

Some good points made about the lines. I went in early Dec when there were few lines. When they let a show in the entire line got in. It would be a long wait if you had to stand in line for longer than the start of the next show. If you're looking to please the kids first, I'd try to hit the first Playhouse Disney show of the day.

And while I was surprised how much my little ones liked MGM, I have to agree that MK was the favorite. I think we rode Small World 5 times!
