We have been to Tom Sawyer Island twice, I believe, but it's been several years. We never could find anything that was fun over there. Did we miss something or is it really boring?

We are watching Disney's Sing Along in DisneyLand, and I saw the sign for it. Of course on this DVD, it's hard to tell if it all takes place on the island or in Frontierland, too.

I just hate to waste our time taking the time to go over there if there's not much to do.

As a kid I absolutely loved Tom Sawyer's island. There was something so cool about being able to run all over the place, not wait in lines, and just be a kid. I think the attraction for an adult is much less.

Thanks Val! It has been so long that I had completely forgotten the fort. It might have been the trip when I was pregant, ds had just turned 2, was the sick the entire time, and dh was at a trade show. Worst vacation of my life!

Anyway, dh has been reading Tom Sawyer to the kids. We also rented the movie from the 70s that had the red-headed boy from Family Affair (Jody) in it and Jodie Foster. The kids liked that. They'll also be 8 and almost 6 by then, so I think it will be a nice respite. I'm afraid that Aunt Polly's will be closed, though.

We didn't care much for it either. It seemed to be too, I don't know what the word is,.....maybe my kids were too little?

We probably won't go back over there.

TSI is a lot better if you know the story, (and if you're not pg with a sick toddler! lol). When you know the story it's not just 'oh neat a fort' it's 'oh wow! cool look this is the fort that ....' or 'quick hide in the tunnel and find a way out 'Injun Joe's' on his way this way', etc. We took Kait over there when she was almost 4, she had just read the book and thought it was so neat and kept pretending to be on adventures with Tom and Huck. She was too young then to just let her loose and run, but she's old enough now that I would let her run around. Chris and I also liked the slowness of it, the total break. We've never stopped at Aunt Polly's though.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but there's also a little playground (in addition to the fort and the caves and the swing bridges and the little buildings on the island). And there are benches all around the playground too. Just a great way to wind down for a few.

We don't and won't "head back to the hotel"...it's just not something that is in our nature to do, and Aly would not have any part of that...it would be miserable for all of us because she likes to be where the ACTION is, and leaving the parks would just be disastrous. (Fortunately, of her 5 trips, she's only had one real meltdown (she was 3) and one not so great evening--we were ALL sick and Epcot was FLOODED and it hadn't stopped raining/pouring since our first park day and it was our last night. You'd think with her personality that being in the parks from 9am to as late as 9:30pm would be continuous meltdowns, but no.)

So, in lieu of leaving the park and having to come back, we just search out quiet and calming things to do, and Tom Sawyer Island is one of those things. Of course, it wasn't very calming for me the year we ended up on the Island DURING the afternoon parade, which we did plan to miss, but it would have been a much better time to do Tomorrowland while people were at the parade...lol. I wasn't happy with Mike at that time..lol.

My family find it completely and totally boring. I've visited the island a twice before kids, once with the kids and I'm all set with that. Not worth my time.

De-lurking to say that my boys LOVE Tom Sawyer Island and we spent a lot of time there on our last two trips. My kids are 6 and 10, and the 6 year old especially liked it...all of it. They both liked the fort best. I have to admit, the tunnels and stuff made me really nervous and a bit claustrophobic, so I passed those up and let my DH go with them.

I think if you have boys (or girls!) who are into this type of thing, it'll be a hit!

I know this post is old, but I feel compelled to say that I can't wait for my kids to explore Tom Sawyer's Island.
