Someone just told me that the first week of June is "gay and lesbian" week in Orlando and at Disney. Is this true?? I have no problem at all with the lifestyle, but I have 2 kids that I am not prepared to answer alot of questions for. Would just like a heads up.
My next door neighbors participate in "Gaydays" at WDW each year. They have told me stories of participants "taking over" parades and such in the parks (which sounds pretty disrespectful to me).....but then again, I've talked to people who have been during this week and didn't notice much of a difference, other than lots of people in red shirts. I believe most of the festivities are held in off-site hotels. Definitely good to know about it ahead of time though. I'm thinking it would not be a nice surprise for a family that wasn't ready. I would probably still go on a vacation scheduled at this time. The last thing my kids are paying attention to at Disney are the adults around them. :)
The official site has a schedule on the opening page....you can avoid the parks on the schedule, and that might help:
It looks like the "Royal Plaza" is the official hotel. I have heard that it's smart to avoid this hotel if you are with a family, as things get crazy at the pool.
Definitely research on the internet, and hopefully someone here will be able to help with a personal story.

The event/conference is not associated with Disney or it's affliates. However like the majority of events/conferences in Orlando the planners set up days for the attendees to visit local theme and amusement parks. The schedule is posted ahead of time and attendees are told to wear a certain color to identify each other.
