We are preparting to book our annual trip to disney(well the last 3 years). I usually only have 6 weeks to plan as dh says we have enough with our tax return and we go over spring break. Well this year my kids are all homeschooled so we are going the week after Thanksgiving giving me 10m to plan. I will still be booking reservations though when we get our tax return. Since I have never had time to even look into it I would like to know about transportation. We are driving down with our travel trailer and staying at Fort Wilderness Campground. The only thing we used last year were the buses to get around the campground and to get to Downtown Disney. We would like to utilize the boat from the campground, the monorail and the buses more this time. I know I can catch the boat to MK or to the Contemporary and then the monorail to MK. Where else does the Monorail go since I can catch that at MK or Contemporary? Does it go to Epcot or MGM or would I be better off taking buses to these parks? We are also getting park hoppers this time so it will make a huge difference since we don't have to stay in one place all day. I just want to make sure we are not wasting alot of time on transportation when their may be an easier way to go about it. Thanks for any advice.

There are 2 monorails that go to MK. One is the express that goes from the TTC to MK and back again. The other is the resort monorail that goes from TTC to Poly to Grand Floridian to MK to Contemporary in that order. The express runs the opposite direction on basically the same route without stops. This is important to know cause if you take the boat to Contemporary your only choice for a monorail is the resort one which will then be making a full route around with 3 stops before getting to MK which will take alot of time. You can walk to MK from Contemporary which would be faster.
The other monorail is for Epcot and only goes from TTC to Epcot and back. Again to get to Epcot you'd have to take the boat to contemporary or MK then either Monorail to TTC to switch to the Epcot monorail. It might be faster to just take a direct bus from the resort.
You can catch a bus to another park if you're parkhopping, except MK to Epcot or back which has the monorail. Also not at MK, you have to take the monorail to the TTC for a bus to another park.
It's pretty easy and efficient. Don't overthink it or try to outsmart the system; I learned my lesson when trying to go to Grand Floridian from AK I took the first bus that came for a monorail resort, which happened to be Contemporary and it took forever to get to Contemp then find the monorail, wait for it and ride it over. I would have been better off waiting for the GF bus which was there before my bus left.
