Upcoming trip - help!

So...MY MOM IS GOING TO DISNEY WITH US!!!  She has never been and is excited to go.  But we'll need to buy her tickets.  The Undercover Tourist link in the Mousesavers email is the cheapest we'll find, isn't it?  Or is there some other place that less expensive?

Next - there are going to be 5 of us going, so we'll need to consider rooms.  I understand that POR - French Quarter has trundles or murphy beds or something.  And there are family suites at a couple of values (including AOA).  Does anyone have any thoughts?  My DH's first question was:  do we need our own space?  Like a door we can close to "get away", even for a few minutes?  It's only going to be 3 days (and 3 nights), so not a long trip.  Would a condo somewhere nearby (for less money - even the ones near Hotel Plaza Blvd!) be a better idea, so we can have a couple of bedrooms?  (We like my mom just fine, but I like my own space, too - I'm an introvert.)

Any other tips for those who have traveled with family?  Fortunately, she's in excellent shape (probably better than I am), so she won't slow us down.  She's willing to go with the flow (or so she says - we'll see).  I know she'd love Epcot, and especially the Flower & Garden festival, so we easily have 1-2 days planned right there...

How fun that your mom is going to Disney with you, I bet the girls will just love that!

As for tickets, yes, I believe the undercover tourist link is the cheapest for tickets. Hotels are a little trickier... My family need space from everyone and everything for just a few minutes a day. I love my mom and so do my kids and my husband but I would want to stay in a condo or suite rather than one room. We have done Disney with friends (before kids), with my parents and brothers family, and with DH's sister and kids. Every trip we had our own hotel room with those adjoining doors and I was always happy at the end of the night to close those doors, lol.

As far as touring goes...your mom sounds like she will be perfect to go with. She hasn't seen anything so everything will be new and exciting. Since you guys have done it all (pretty much) before I would get a feel for what she really wants to do. And, if there is anything really important to you let her know. My only big issue when travelling with family was my SIL's inability to get up and out in the morning so we started meeting up later because the late starts were driving me crazy, but I can't imagine my mom being like that (so I am assuming your mom won't either).

Have fun, I hope get to hear about it. ;)

I've never traveled with family.   However, with my DH (a/k/a the loud snorer) we do opt for a cabin at Ft Wilderness so we can have a door that shuts.   It gives more elbow room, but is a little different to navigate than a regular WDW resort.

I've never stayed offsite.. .. .

It might be nice to have your mother.  Maybe you & DH can have some hubby & wife time while there.

Well, I just booked a 2 bedroom full condo to stay in and I'm super excited - about 2 miles from DTD. Got a doozy of a rate - they had a FL resident rate on their website (cheaper than expedia) and I called to ask a few questions - the woman booked over the phone and actually lowered the rate by a few bucks! So, total for 3 nights (including taxes/resort fees) is $405. By comparison, POR with a murphy pull-down was $637 (all in one room), All-star music family suite was $784 (3 people sleeping on pull-outs), and AOA family suite (my favorite option, and I really debated this one) was $973. So, basically I'm going to get room and tickets for less than the price of just a room at Disney. Worth it! Now I'm really excited...

I think you'll appreciate having your own space, even if it's just for a few days. I won't even stay one night in the same room with other people!

When are you going???

lots of good advice..have fun! If you book tickets from discounters, be sure to read the fine print. Those really cheap tickets may Not be available to you UNless you are willing to sit through what they call an"hour long" resort tour..and we All knows those tours never last just an hour!

have fun!

We're going Mother's Day weekend. My mom flies home on Monday, so I'm going to pull the kids from school on Friday (which is test day for Megan, but it can't be helped). So we'll be there Thursday night through Sunday. Can't wait! :)

What a great deal!  I would have suggested staying offsite in a condo somewhere.  I HAVE to have my own space.  I don't even like staying in a hotel room with the kids, let alone throwing another adult in the mix LOL!

Where did you book?  Just curious as my parents own a timeshare, so we stay offsite most times.  My girlfriend just stayed at the Hilton there at DtD.  I think you've stayed there before, but I believe it's a regular hotel.

We almost always get our tickets from Undercover Tourists.  And ALWAYS link through the Mousesavers newsletter since it's cheaper than going directly to their website.  I've never asked at AAA, but their prices might be comparable.  Will find out whenever/if they announce fall discouts :)

Can't wait to hear about your trip!  My cousin and her family arrives on Mother's Day, and I'm anxious to see their pictures.  They're going with their grown son and his wife and 2 year old, so that will be really neat.  May is my favorite time to go :)

Oh, Hilarie - sounds like a great trip and a great time to travel with your mom too! Nice way to celebrate Mother's Day! :) Glad you got a great deal with lots of space too - we've become very spoiled usually staying in a 2 bedroom villa through DVC whether it's with my sister or cousin or my own girls - nice to being to close the door once in a while :) We almost bought our tix through Undercover Tourist - no APs for us this year. But we needed a 9-day MYW and they did not offer that - every other amount of days except 9-day :( But I've only heard the best of things about them. Enjoy the Flower and Garden Festival and look into anything special that might be happening on Mother's Day - they usually have special holiday meals at some of the restaurants: http://allears.net/menu/men_mom.htm .
