With all the resorts available it boggles the brain. I've been researching them and find that the value resorts don't receive very good reviews. We will be staying 7 nights, so comfort is a must. I want clean, convience, family friendly service.
Is it worth upgrading to a moderate resort? Has anyone stayed at both? What are the pros and cons of each?

Also how about the cost of food. Is it better to do the packages with dining or pay out-of-pocket for the food?

TIA!

We've stayed at a value twice and a moderate twice. The moderate is not worth it to us, we don't use the amenities there that the values don't have. The value resort rooms are about the same size as a standard hotel room (Comfort Inn, etc.). Not huge, but you aren't in there much.

Is there anything specific you're looking for the resort to provide? The values and moderates both have only bus service to the parks. The values don't have a slide at the pool, the moderates do; the values don't have a sit-down restaurant, the moderates do.

We thought the food court at the values are better than the one at the moderate we've stayed at. There are more choices, especially at lunch and dinner.

We chose a value this time over a moderate.

Hope this helps, if you're looking for something specific, let us know and we'll try to help!

We've stayed at both values, mods, and the FW cabins (which are considered Home Away From Home's). We are staying value again (Pop Century) in May. We get two rooms because my mom is coming with us.

Honestly, we've loved all the places we stayed. Last trip, we stayed at All Star Movies and loved it! The rooms are a bit small, but not as small as people make them sound. We had plenty of room (our kids were 10 and 6 at the time). We don't spend alot of time in the room anyway. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside when our kids were 9 and 5, and the resort is lovely, but I didn't find the room to be that much larger than the value resort rooms. The cabins offered us the most space, but of course, they are that much more expensive too.

As for cleanliness and service, I'd say the Disney mod and value resorts are basically comparable. I've read bad reviews about ALL levels of resorts, so it just goes to show that you can't please everyone anyway!

Buying into the dining plan just depends on your needs. If you are big eaters, or enjoy a sit-down meal at least once a day, then the dining plan may be for you. Do you have children? Children aged 10 and older are considered "adults" in Disney and are charged the adult price for the plan. If your child likes adult food (like my 11 year old!), then it will work out. But if they will only eat of the kids menu, you may want to re-consider. The dining plan works for us, because we do eat one sit-down dinner per day, and the cost of that entree alone pays for the plan for the day.

Hope this helps a bit!

When we were a family of 3, I loved the Value resorts.
