What do you think of the Disney bags

at Walmart? They are priced around $10.00, and they have backpack style, messenger style, and tote-bag style. I bought a messenger bag; it looks big enough to hold a guidebook, first-aid basics, bottle of water & sunblock, etc. My kids were laughing, but I bet when they see the prices in the park, they'll sing another tune (hey, a mom of teenagers can only hope, right? LOL).
I'm also considering buying a grab-bag of pins to start us off ...
Our trip is the last week of December. Yeah, I know it peak week, but I hated to have them miss school. They've never been there, and dh & I were only there once, on our honeymoon 23 years ago.

Where in Wal-mart did you find them? They sound nice!

I will have to go and look - I'd like to get one for DD for our September trip.

I've not seen these in the store....but I admit, I rarely shop at Wal-Mart. The one we have nearby isn't so great.
However, I found this online. Is this like the bag you found?

If so, I really like it.....and I think you're awfully smart to buy ahead of time to save yourself some $$$.
There is a Mickey diaper bag I WANT on the Wal-Mart site. Only problem is that my youngest is out of diapers now, so I can't think of a reason to order. :)
Have a wonderful trip. We'll be there the second week of December again, I hope. Just waiting on the cheap airfare to come through (fingers crossed). We take the kids out of school, but they are younger than yours. High school is a different ballgame.

The one I got is smaller, more like a messenger-style handbag rather than a school-type bag. I looked at all (49) handbags on the website and none of the Disney ones I saw in the store were on there (but many other non-Disney handbags were there, lol).
There are lots of cute baby items available in stores now that weren't around when my "baby" was a baby 15 years ago LOL. And I'm not quite ready to be a grandmom so I am not buying any baby items just yet ;D.
Don't worry, those cheaper airfares come through every year just toward the end of September or October. We fly to Tampa almost every year that same week, more or less, and dh jumps on those airfares after watching them carefully from the end of August. We fly out of Philly; the last several times we've flown has been with Southwest Airlines because they offer the lowest rates!
OMG, you mentioned vacations & school -- this has been an amazing few weeks lately. I always felt guilty about pulling my kids out of school for vacations, and we've never done it for more than a day or two on one end of a vacay. But this year, we'd already planned the Disney week, (on top of our annual week-long summer beach trip with our best family friends). But a couple of months ago, dh decided he wanted us to take another week, and use our timeshare, so he booked us Memorial Day week, and we planned to pull our 15yo out for the 4 days. However, I told her that she had grade-goals to meet or she'd stay behind with friends and go to school. She was really in a quandry too because she realized she might be the only teenager there for the week and be bored, so I just kept asking her where she'd rather be: bored at a timeshare resort or here going to school for the week -- easy decision for a 15yo LOL. Needless to say she met those goals for the grades we agreed upon (some were tests, others were homework or other projects) and she went with us. I was a little concerned after we returned, tho, because the science teacher who'd been giving her a run for her money, not only dumped on her all the homework she'd missed (even though she went to all the teachers ahead of time to ask for the work), he sprung a test on her for that Thursday, which the class had studied for as a group the week we were away. Dh called the school and got her an extension for the following Tuesday, and don't you know, all week long plus the weekend, she kept forgetting to bring the textbook home? Claimed she couldn't find any friends who had it, and even though it's supposed to be available on the publisher's website, our Internet service was balky that weekend. She had been invited to join a school-friend's family on THEIR beach vacation later this summer, so I told her that unless she brought home a B on this test, she wouldn't be going. She had a melt-down, saying it was impossible & it wasn't fair that she couldn't go. I held firm. Guess what? She not only brought home an 86 on the test, it was enough to bring her final year grades up to 2nd Honors (which we found out today, the last day of school)! What a lucky duck, huh?
You will have a wonderful trip too!
(In your sig, does that mean you have a set of twins? I'm an identical twin LOL.)

Can you use it as a camera bag?....lol.
I am serious, though! When we got our first video camera (Aly was an infant) and we could hardly afford the camera, let alone a camera bag for it--$25 was the cheapest we could find.
Well, we had an extra mini-diaper bag--Pooh bear. We used that as our camera bag. Before our first trip to Disney, we went to San Antonio. It was on that trip that I realized how genius this was. We got into our hotel room to find out the fridge wasn't running, so they moved us, but they sent someone in to help us move our things. He grabbed the camera bag and other things, and as I was putting things down in the new room and taking them from him, he said, "And here's the diaper bag." Oh my goodness...nobody KNOWS it's a camera bag--who's going to go after a diaper bag???
So, when that one ripped, I had to buy a camera bag. Again, I was stuck with the dilemma of paying that much for a camera bag and still in a MAJOR money crunch (other than home daycare, I didn't work until Aly was almost 6 years old). And I decided, let me go check out the baby section first. Found a cute navy & beige plaid one that was insulated (silver) on the inside. The pockets were perfect for extra tapes, extra film, extra battery, etc. Doesn't even look like a diaper bag (so it doesn't hold that value anymore--but still doesn't look like a camera bag either).
Not only was it a great buy at less than $10, BUT when we went to Disney in 2002 and went through the downpours--one particular evening, it was sooooo bad at Epcot that even though I was holding it under my raincoat, under the umbrella, the entire bag was soaked...we were all soaked. I succumbed to the idea that I had lost my camera, video camera, tapes, film, and a cell phone. Got into the car--opened the bag...EVERYTHING inside was DRY!!!! Not a single drop of water had gotten inside the bag--not even at the zipper, but the entire outside of the bag was dripping wet!
My only complaint is that with cameras & stuff in it, it can eat through your shoulder (didn't have a pad or cushion), but I've since fixed that with a piece I was able to buy in the luggage section at Wal-mart for $2 or $3.
So, anyway....get thinking....is it something you can use for ANYTHING else?

We fly Airtran, and we hang in for the $69 (or sometimes $79) fare, one way, straight through flight. You're right....it usually comes through in the fall. DH stalks the Airtran website daily until he sees it, and then the trip is a sure thing!
My rule has always been that the grades have to be good, or the kids can't get out of school. So far, so good. DH has work conferences that week in December, so it just makes sense for us financially to follow along that week vs. some other during the year. I feel so spoiled going all the time.
Yes, I do have twins - identical girls! They had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome and weren't expected to be born at all, much less healthy. Have you heard of TTTS? It affects only identicals. My dad is an identical twin, too! I always wished very hard for twins.
Have you ever been to the Twins Festival in Ohio? It's very cool! Thousands and thousands of twins. A lot of studies twins can get cash for, too. My girls love it. We won't be able to make it this year though.
Also....I didn't realize my kids' ages were very wrong in my siggie....my twins just turned 11! Thanks for drawing my attention to that. The girls would not be happy if they knew I was still calling them 10 year olds, for goodness sake.

Hmmmm...that is brilliant! I may be picking up a waterproof cooler / camera bag before our beach trip in August. Might as well be a Disney one, right?
Back to the Wal-Mart site I go.....

Can you post a link to the one you're talking about? Or e-mail me through my profile?
Thanks,
Alysha
I never heard of that condition, but my sister & I were born in 1960, so in 1959 it might not have been discovered yet. What is it?
I never had the desire to go to Twinsburg for the Festival; it's hot enough in Philly for more than just the summer, I don't have to go to Ohio to be hot. My sister has occ'ly asked me if I wanted to go, but that was before she got married 8 years ago.

Hi again!
TTTS is when identical twins have a conncected blood flow through a shared placenta...and not in a good way. There is usually a bit of sharing with any set of identicals, but in a smaller percentage of cases, this sharing goes horribly wrong. One of my twins was losing much of her blood into her sister, and it had to be taken care of (with fetal surgery when I was 20 weeks pregnant) before I lost them. Very, very scary....and unfortunately happening all too often. :( I was incredibly lucky and still am amazed that my twins are here with me and healthy.
Ohio is definitely hot in August! It's very neat to see the many sets of identical twins dressed alike at the festival, and my girls enjoy not standing out so much that one day.....but it's not a HUGE big deal. You'd really have to want to go and experience it with your sister. My dad and his twin have never been either.
