What the...P&PP just ruined my plans!?

Thank you very much, Disney, for scheduling an event that my family is NOT interested on, on the last night of our trip, when we were hoping to close with a Magical evening of Spectro and Wishes!...NOT!
Sorry to sound so- well, un-Disney like but...my plane tickets are bought (non-refundable) so we can't change our dates). Now what?
I GUESS we'll end with IllumiNations, which of course isn't bad at all. BUT, we weren't (aren't!) planning on park hopping, so that changes our itinerary for the whole day, not just the evenings...
Mostly, the letdown is mine because, all my memories of MK as a kid had me ending the day exhausted but happy while watching the Electric parade and fireworks...what kind of an anticlimactic ending to the whole MK experience would it be to leave for the last time at 7 pm??? (And with nothing to do the next morning but pack and check out?)
I even bought our plane tickets for later the next day so we wouldn't have to get up early after the late "last blast" night...
I even considered attending the P&PP but even if I could justify the extra $ on an already strrreetched budget, my son is just NOT into pirates (my DH on the other hand, might go for it LOL, but that's not the point!)
Does anyone have any words of advice - or consolation?

I feel your pain. Our first night there is Saturday September 8th and the Magic Kingdom closes at 7pm for some Christian Rock Concert which is not ANYTHING we would be interested in at all. There are no late extra magic hours that night either at any of the other parks. Our flight doesn't land until 2:30 that day but we were hoping for late hours SOMEWHERE.
We are going to try to get to Epcot for a 7pm Teppanyaki reservation and watch Illuminations. I am hoping it works out but still miffed at Disney for doing this to us on our first night there!
I am still so excited for our vacation though!
I'm new to this board, having recently moved to the Kissimmee/Orlando. I bought annual passes for my daughter and myself so came here looking for ways to maximize my passes. I have to tell you tho, whether your son's into pirates or not, if you can at all afford it, GO TO THE PARTY! I have been to 2 parties now - went to the Pirate and Princess Party in February, and the Halloween Spooktacular last September. If MK was all I liked about Disney, I would definitely forego passes and daytime tickets and ONLY go to Disney during the parties. They limit the # of people in the park for these events. There are handout points all over the place (for the pirate and princess party they gave out cute little "loot bags" and then you get beads ("jewels") and candy to fill the bag with all over the park. But that is NOT the best part. The best part is almost all of the rides are open, and we didn't wait more than 10 minutes in ANY line. That includes Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted House, Winnie-the-Pooh, Buzz Lightyear, and so forth. The most popular rides have wait times of 10 minutes max. The price of the ticket is just over half the price of a regular ticket, and I really think you get much more bang for your buck. PLUS, they will let you in the park EARLY! So even tho the party is 7:30 to 12:30, you can actually get into the park at 5 (maybe 5:30 now that I'm thinking about it, but I really think it was 5). That's 7½ hours, and you'll get more done with less waiting than if you go all day. BTW, are you going to California? Because I thought the P&PP's were over in Orlando now...
Blessings,
Maria
I'm editing this to add... If you do go to the party, go to tomorrowland to watch the fireworks. Right at the entrance to tomorrowland, there is a restaurant (I think it's called the Asian Noodle Bowl or something like that). The restaurant will be closed, but the tables are outside. Get a table as close to the wall facing the castle as possible. It's a great view of the fireworks, and when Tinkerbell flies from the castle, she lands on the roof of that restaurant, so she will fly very close to you!

Hope your teppaynaki reservations work out! That was one of our top choices ( we love Japanese food) BUT it will be closed for refurbishing while we're there! :(
LOL!
that if you have to be out of the park several hours earlier than normal on these days
then your park pass should be cheaper. What about people who are planning on going to Disney for one day only...like us. Glad this was brought to my attention so I can check the schedule before scheduling our vacation.
Does anyone have a link where I can find out what days these parties are?

I'D spring for the P&PP tickets!!!
I"m told by more than one source that it is absolutely spectacular!! THe fireworks show alone is worth the price of the tickets and the parade is unbelievable!! TINKERBELLE is even in it!!!
There are characters everywhere, including some fo the rarest and villains (Even Cindy's Step Sisters have been known to crash the party!!
PLUS, since there is a limited amount of tickets sold, there is virtually no wait for ANY ride!
Of course, there is the treasure map to show you where to find the "treasures" (Chocolate coins and beads) and Pirate and Princess dances and tutorials.
You could always save your park ticket and do DTD this day, P&PP that night, THEN head to a park on your departure day. Bell services will be happy to hold your bags for you!!!!
Considerit!!
~Elena (98 days to go!)
Thanks Elena (and everyone else who bumped my original post back up! :) ...but it just won't work for us. I do appreciate all of your arguments...
See, we have a special situation: the entire reason for our trip is my foster son, who's returning to his bio family after almost 3 years with us. He's 9, and NOT into pirates, parades, or dancing AT ALL...(he's into space and cars and math and technology - yes, NERD! LOL)!
DH and I would sure enjoy all of the above...but if the only reason for us to take him is the walk-on rides, it's just not worth it. We'll have 6-7 days in the parks so at that point "saving" a ticket is just a matter of a few dollars per person, really.
Thank you for chiming in, again...but the more I think about it, I guess it just doesn't fit.
