We are going to Disney World 11/27. We will be doing this trip on a major budget. We really shouldn't be going at all to tell you the truth. We have park hopper passes for 5 days. My bil, who is going with his family the same time now wants to go to Universal. This is going to cost us almost $200 more. We will only be able to do that park 1 day. I'm thinking we should skip Universal since there is so much to Disney. What do all you experienced Disney vacationers think?

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in the whole budget- shouldn't be going ect....We leave on Thursday for a wedding in atlanta and then are flying to orlando on monday for 3days - 2 at disney-I am a complete stress bucket about money!!! We live pay check to pay check-so it will be tight but I figure we wont be able to do this again for a long time since we are expecting#4 in June-good things i paid for a lot up front!! Anyway i would do what you can afford and not worry about BIL.
Have a good time-life is too short and bills will always be there!!
Take care

well I'm not all that experienced with Disney as this is our first trip . But this is what I think. It would all depend on how long your going and the age of your child as it look like she is young. I'm going with my family in December and we are only going for 7 days and I feel that it would be hard to do Universal as well so we are only doing the 4 Disney Parks and if the weather is nice we want maybe take our kids to Typhoon Lagoon and also do Seaworld. We realize this will be tight but we will see how our schedule is as right now we have only bought the 7 day park hopper. I also feel that Universal is for older kids preferably as this is what I get from reading on the boards and books. But then again I'm not positve as I have never been. I do hope this helps you but I do feel that I would save that money and either use it for something else or nothing at all.

We have never been to Universal in the 6 trips we've taken recently with the family. You are right, there is SO much to do at the Disney parks, we can't imagine going elsewhere. After all these years, there's still plenty we haven't seen yet! My opinion is that Universal is not necessary at all. If it was something you were dying to do, you could probably budget it.....but it doesn't sound like you're all that interested anyway.

If you have an "off" day from the parks (while the BIL is at Universal with his family), you can visit downtown Disney, which is great. You can ride the monorail and check out the resorts. All free of charge. :)

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for you input. Dh has been mad at me all morning over this and now him and his brother have decided that it might be too much so we'll decide when we get there. It's like they all of a sudden realized how big disney is. Men! And I'm the only female adult going on this trip. I'm in for it!

"{BIL}, I hope you really enjoy your day at Universal. It's not in our budget for this trip unfortunately." then change the subject.

Seriously, for the cost and feeling like you would have to rush around to 'get your money's worth', and then which Universal park are you going to do? Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure? Are there things the kids can do? Depending on their heighht and their interests, Universal really doesn't have that much for the under 10 crowd.

Thanks Sonya! I never even thought of the height restrictions. Bil wants to go more for his ds who is 11, and he is bringing a friend. His dd is 4 and so is my dd so they might not enjoy it. I told dh that bil could take the boys there and we'll keep the girls at Disney. That way everyone is happy.

You won't even miss Universal. I would skip it and put that $200 into something else.

Have fun!

"...I told dh that bil could take the boys there and we'll keep the girls at Disney..."

That is exactly what I would tell BIL.

Haven't read all the posts, but I say stick with Disney parks. I don't know the ages of your kids, but Universal seems like it has more thrill rides and would be more suitable for the older crowd. I don't know this from experience, having never been there, but from what I've heard, it just seems geared more to the thrill seeking crowd.

Plus, if you are on a budget, I think I'd save the extra money. One thing is certain, you won't be bored at Disney parks!! I'm sure you'll find plenty to do, and will leave for home wishing you had more time to spend!

Have fun!
