What's it like in June?
| Sun, 02-04-2007 - 5:40pm |
My mom's 60th is in June and I'm thinking of taking her on a vacation for her birthday. Disney is (of course) one of the places I am considering, but seeing that my Mom and I have only taken my son there in September when the crowds are non-existant, I'm wondering what it is like in June?
If we do decide to go the Disney route, what are some special things I could do for her for her birthday?
TIA!
Julie

We live in Georgia, so we are used to the heat and humidity... We're used to going in September, which we've done for the past two years, when the heat is still there, but the crowds aren't--we walked on most rides and our longest wait this time was 30 minutes for Dumbo--the September thing isn't very condusive to school though and that's what we're dealing with now, so we're looking at other times... any other thoughts?
thanks!
Julie
Hi Julie!
We are taking my Mom to Disney for her 60th birthday in May (3 months, 2 weeks to go...yeah!). We are so excited!! Mom's only request was that we eat at Le Cellier (again), so we are doing that on her birthday, May 13, which is also Mother's Day. I've noted on all of our reservations with Disney and with Dining that it is my Mom's 60th, and I'll make sure I let them know again when we check in. We are staying at POP, and I'm going to ask at check-in for a room in either the 50's or the 60's...I think my Mom will really think that's neat! I don't really have anything else planned that's out of the ordinary.
The only trip we've taken in June was the 2nd week of June in 2002. It was the rainiest June they had had on record in Orlando. It rained all day, every day. It was that pouring down sideways rain...the kind that there is no hiding from unless you are inside. Umbrellas and ponchos were a joke. After that trip, we vowed we'd never go in June again. The only upside to our trip was that because it was so wet, it kept the heat down. I think it's normally pretty hot in June.
Has your Mom ever been to Disney? I hope you'll be able to take her! I think it's the best place to celebrate a birthday.

When in June are you planning on going?
We usually go around the first week of June and the end of May. We have to get in for SW and F&G. The crowds weren't too bad the first week but towards the end of the end of our trip we did see more crowds. Did it bother us? Nope. Just utilize fast pass and emh and you will be fine. :)
Marcy,
Thank you for your response. Yes, Mom has been to Disney before. She and I have taken my now five year old each of the past two years. We all have such a nice time and we had hoped to take Joey last year for his birthday, but then they offered the free dining again, so we moved our trip up a month to qualify for that. We have 7 days remaining on our no-expiration park hopping tickets too... although, to qualify for dining, I think we'll have to purchase at least one day's ticket...
My Mom was mentioning some of her favorite restaurants yesterday... Le Cellier was right on top of the list... as was Coral Reef... I just think it would be so much fun and you only turn 60 once... :)
*hugs*

Cool... thanks for the information on the crowds. I was thinking this was definitely when emh and fast pass would come into play. My mom's birthday is the 10th, so I would hope we'd be down there for that, but I haven't made any definite plans yet. So, if I get what you're saying though, it may be better to go earlier in June then... my son's school gets out the Friday before Memorial Day, so school isn't an issue for us at all in June... Fortunatley for us, Disney is a car trip away, so there aren't any flight arrangements that need to be made.
Thanks again!
Julie
