get a fast pass for the safari at AK? We have been twice, but the animals were never very active. When is the best time to do the safari?

It is better to go early in the morning. The animals tend to be more active.

They are also active during the rain. We have some great pictures of the elephants and hippos when we went. :)

Hi Shelby. :)

It is the Kilimanjaro safari. You will take a ride through the safari and see the animals they have at the AK. They have a variety of animals there. I would also suggest that you do the walk through trails. There are some beautiful animals on the trails. I have pictures if you would like to see them. :)

We went twice in the morning (10'ish, two separate days about 2 weeks ago) and neither time were the animals very active. I also heard they're more active in the rain, but when it started pouring we were tired and not up to going back to try the safari again.

BTW, she's referring to the Kiliminjaro Safari, where you ride big passenger jeeps and see the animals in a simulated real African environment. In my opinion, it's AK's main attraction.

I've always heard morning and just before close. We've done 2 mornings and one afternoon and didn't see any difference between the times. We saw animals out & about--the lions were lying down (hard to see), but I can't say if it was a huge amount of animals because we've seen the same amount of animals each trip. But, it does sound like rainy times is a great time to go.

When you get to AK, the Fast Pass machine probably won't be open when you first get there (especially if 2008's Mardi Gras is less crowded than 2004's). We got there a little bit after opening. Our plan was to get FP for KS, then head over to KRR. The FP wasn't open yet for KS, so we hoped we were making the right decision to bypass it. We headed to KRR, rode within 5 minutes...rode again within 5 minutes, then headed over to KS. By then, the FP was open, but it was showing like an hour away. The standby wait stated 35 or 45 minutes, but it was our last thing before heading out, so we decided to do the standby. It was less than 20 minutes (probably less than 15). When we got off, our FP tickets still weren't good for another 30 minutes or so (we handed them off to someone on the way out).

Edited to add that when we first got to the safari before the FP machines were opened, the stand-by time was posted at 25 minutes. So, we DID do the right thing that day to bypass it and go to KRR.

Thanks for the info! After posting to you, I got my WDW book back out and started looking through it again. I did read up on AK so now know what you're talking about...sounds FUN! (I put it away during that "lull" time when you have planned/planned/planned, made ADR's and are just passing time, LOL) I'd love to see your pictures too, if you don't mind!
