When would you go??
| Mon, 04-16-2007 - 4:40pm |
I'm planning a trip for myself, DH and our 3 kids (8, 5, 2.5 at the time), my sister, BIL and niece (2 yo), my parents and my ILs. My kids are the only ones in school -- DS will be in 2nd grade and DD will be in K -- so the choice of when to go is pretty much mine. Originally we'd planned to go April 2008 the 19th to the 26th, which is the week of our spring break. Now I'm considering going this November during Jersey week instead -- we're from Jersey so the kids would only miss 3 days of school. However, part of the reason we were waiting until April is so my youngest would be almost 3 -- we figured she'd enjoy it more. In November she'll only be 2 1/2. My big concern about April is the crowds -- is it that bad at the end of April?? I've got two friends going this coming week so I'll get their report too. We've gone during Jersey week before and didn't find it to be too bad crowdwise. I'm also thinking April would be hotter, though our last NOvember trip there was an unusual heat wave so you can never predict things!! Ideally, I'd love to go in early December and see the Christmas stuff, BUT DH isn't too thrilled with pulling the kids out of school and I have to respect that....don't I, LOL?!? Anyway, I'd appreciate any input.

I will chime in with an opinion about taking the kids out of school. I am pulling 4 kids out of school to go in September. They are 15, 11, 7 and 5. It is a sacrifice we are willing to make to go when it is value season, cheaper flights (we are from Chicago), less crowds etc. As long as you plan ahead what is 4-5 days of missed school? We will get all of their classwork the week before we leave so they can work on it then.
I have friends who pull their kids out of school every year for vacation and they say with a little planning it all works out just fine.
So if you want to go in December I wouldn't hesitate or not do it just because of school. Your kids are young anyway. Are they really going to miss that much that you can get them caught up for when they get back?
As far as your daughter being older, she won't really remember the trip wether she is 2 1/2 or almost 3 but it will be magical for her either way. But only you know her temperment. Is she an easy going kind of toddler or would a change in her routine throw her out of whack? My sister took her 18 month old to Disney and she said the baby had as much fun as her 3 year old. They just didn't push her to the extreme by taking breaks when needed/ naps etc.
Good luck deciding. Either way you will be in Disney within a year from now right??
Definetly not April because it is way too crowded the entire month.
I would choose September or October. If you wanted to go in Mid November you could also catch one of the first Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights. Crowds do start picking up again Mid-November, but the party is great!
April you will have the Flower and Garden festival.
November you might have MVMCP.
As for the 2+ year old it really depends on your child.
I was thinking of going that same week in April and my 3 kids will be similar ages too, LOL!
