Which waterpark is best?

Our kids are 10 and 12 and both swim well. Is one waterpark more fun than the other? Also, has anyone done the surf lessons at Typhoon Lagoon? What was your experience?
Thanks,
Ashley

You will get a million answers to that question - even just from me LOL!
We like both waterparks, but our favourite is Typhoon Lagoon, my DD just adores the big waves in the lagoon (I didn't know they did surfing lessons there - something to think about when we go in September!)
The CrushnGusher was new when we went a couple of years ago and it was a blast. DD and DH swam with the sharks in the shark lagoon and loved that too (cold water is NOT my cup of tea so I just watched)
Do your kids know you're going to WDW or is it a surprise? If they know then why not let them pick the waterpark? we have a book called WDW BY Kids For Kids (and I know there are others) that gives good details of rides, shows etc in all the parks (water parks too)my DD read it and decided that wearing a 2 piece swimsuit was a really bad idea - there was waaaay too much of a possibility that the bottom would simply come off LOL!

Both waterparks are a lot of fun, but we enjoy Typhoon Lagoon the most. My girls are 8 and 5 (were 6 and 3 the last time we went), and they love, love, love the big waves! We didn't do the surf lessons, although I know DH would love to at some point. If you like water parks, I don't think you can go wrong no matter which one you pick!

It's a surprise for the kids, and I am having a hard time keeping it a secret. They have never done anything like this before and I know they'll be thrilled. We usually do museums-in-the-city or hiking type vacations, and then threaten to take them to antiques shops when they quarrel. I've told them that there will be absolutely no antiques shopping on this trip at all and that the hotel will definitely have a pool. That's all they know, although DS keeps trying to guess.
And a thousand thank yous for the tip on wearing a one piece suit. All I have are those "mom tankini" type things, so I need to get a one piece or wear my ratty old speedo.
Me too LOL! thank goodness I had taken one of each with me, my daughter didn't read that gem till we were already in Orlando!

That would be the Summit Plummet - you actually DID that?? my DH did and DD got about half-way up the wait line before changing her mind (she's a daredevil but she was only 6 at the time!) but you wouldn't catch me doing that - you are brave brave brave LOL!

My boys are 8 and 12, and we went to Blizzard Beach. I let them pick the park, and that's where they wanted to go. We all had a blast. My boys are both good swimmers, but not very adventurous. They had no interest in going on Summit Plummet...but we did go on the mat slides, and the family raft slide. We spent a lot of time in the "tween" training camp area. They loved the icebergs, and the tube slides there.
We all did the lazy river, but warning, we all got separated. Make a note of where you got on, and make sure your kids know EXACTLY where they are to get off, in case you get separated. It's a bit of a free-for-all getting tubes and what-not there, and can be quite crowded. I didn't realize this at first, but you don't need to be in a tube to be on the lazy river. Eventually, I ditched my tube so I could catch up to my 12 year old and my DH caught up to the 8 year old.
The wave pool isn't as big or as nice as the one at TL, but given that my kids have never been to TL, they didn't know the difference.
I'd let your kids see the maps of both, and then decide while you are there, which one you are going to.
Have fun!! We had to leave early to make an ADR, which was a bummer for us. We were having so much fun and easily could have stayed until closing (and we got there at opening!). Next trip, no dining plan for us and fewer ADR's !

Thanks so much. My kids (10 and 12) are also not very adventurous, a character trait I am hoping will last into their teens. That Summit thing looked terrifying to me, so I'd rather not have to go on it in the off-chance that they should want to try it. DH can do all the rides with warning signs. I'll just....shop and eat.
And I appreciate your tips about the ADRs (I hate the idea of having to make any, but I suppose we'll have to because I really want to eat at Jiko) and the lazy river. It would absolutely freak my kids out to be lost in a water park. They know what to do, but the brief emotional trauma wouldn't be pleasant for anyone.
