Which would you choose?

We want to go with the least amount of crowds, but with the most amount of park time.
Our choices are:
Thanksgiving week: we can go to parks Sat before, Sun, Mon, Tues, and possibly Wed (4 days, possibly a 5th if we go the day before Thanksgiving which will be busy)
First week of Jan: we can go to parks possibly Jan 1, Jan 2, Jan 3, Jan 4, Jan 5 (4 days, possibly a 5th if we go on Jan 1)
Mardi Gras: we can go to parks Sat-Feb 2, Sun-Feb 3, Mon-Feb 4 (only 3 days, but I know it will be uncrowded)

I'd go with January. I think that's marathon weekend also, so you'd have some traffic issues, but not really park issues and you'd get that extra day or two over Mardi Gras week.
My personal choice would be at Thanksgiving. We were there last year on Turkey Day and it wasn't crowded at all. Plus you get to see all the Christmas decorations AND...at 6pm on Turkey day they light the Osborne lights...always a nice treat.
So..that's my personal choice.
ack, I was going to say Don't go on Thanksgiving. We were there last year too, and I thought it was crowded. Maybe we were spoiled because in the past, we had gone when it wasn't crowded at all. MGM felt like wall to wall people to me that week. Epcot wasn't too bad since it was more spread out, so we spent Thanksgiving day there.
I thought one of the cm said that Thanksgiving was the second busiest time of the year.
But any time at Disney is fun ;-)
We won't see Christmas decorations at all because we'll be HOME by Thanksgiving day. But we've been in early December (no crowds) 4 times in the past, so we've seen it already.

See, we're spoiled too... We've been twice in July, once in Sept, four times in early December, and once in late Feb. We've seen busy & hot, hot but not busy, warm/nice and not busy, and warm and busy (not as busy as July, but busy enough that it was discouraging).
We KNOW what early Dec is like..lol.

Thanks Sonya--that's my choice, too. But Mike's not good with "new territory" and even though we haven't been at the other times (we went at Mardi Gras when it was at the end of the month & spring break for Michigan, so it was busier than it is at the beginning of the month), we know people who have gone at Thanksgiving and early Mardi Gras and they've all been able to give us personal accounts.
We personally don't know anyone who's been the first week of January, even though I've seen reports that Dec 31--they close down the parks, Jan 1--a lot of people, but most are finishing their vacation, and Jan 2 on--uncrowded.
And as I compare the 3, this is what I get.
Thanksgiving--4 or 5 days, but crowds building up each day.
January--4 or 5 days, crowds dying down each day
Mardi Gras (early Feb)--3 days only, little crowds
If we go with one the first 2, would we rather crowds building up or dying down? Crowds building up means we need to get the bulk of our must-dos at the beginning of the trip. Dying down--slowly build ourselves up.
So, even though I think Jan is our best choice, I'll have to get some personal reports from others to prove it to Mike...lol.
Are the marathon events held on the main roads to the parks? What about resort availability? This past Jan, Jan 1 started the value season at the values?
Thanks,
Alysha
The marathon weekend events don't start until Jan 10 according to Disney's Wide World of Sports website, so we are free & clear of that.

I've been doing searches all afternoon, and unfortunately, it looks like first week of Jan will be busy next year because of the way Jan 1 falls and school breaks fall (the VERY reason we can go this coming year).
That is so frustrating.
But Mike just does not want to go that week anyway because we don't know anyone PERSONALLY who has gone at that time. Of course, we've known someone PERSONALLY who has gone over Christmas week 3 years in a row and enjoyed it...lol.
As I said before, we do know others who have gone Thanksgiving week (Sat & Sun typical Nov weekend crowds, Mon a little busier, Tues a little busier, Wed-busy, and Thurs (we'll be gone by then anyway)--very busy.
And then we always have Mardi Gras weekend with just 3 park days (we did that in 2004 at the end of the month, but it was BUSIER then than it will be this coming year--beginning of the month).
ACK!!!!

That's a hard one! Part of me says Thanksgiving week, but I'd love to go during some of the Christmas decorations/activities, but if I remember right, you've been during that time?
DH and I were there for 5 days from Feb 1 (arrived just before midnight) until Feb 6 this year, and it wasn't terribly crowded, but not as uncrowded as I'd expected. They were having dance competitions that weekend, and I think that was a large part of it, but they didn't bother us at all. The only thing that surprised me was how cold it felt. It was in the upper 40's to the upper 50's during our stay, the last day it got to the low 60's, but it just felt so cold. Kinda funny, given that it was anywhere from 3-10 degrees at home with 8 inches of snow on the ground!
Does that help at all?
Steph
Yes, thank you!
When we were there in Feb '04, there were twirl competitions. I remember being in a monorail car with a group of girls & one mom. The girl closest to me (the one with the biggest mouth...lol) was going on & on about how she can't believe her mom spent that much for the Tink brush and that if she had known it was that much she wouldn't have even asked. And about how cool her sorcerer's hat was. When we got on the next monorail car (that one was MK-TTC, then we did TTC-Epcot) my EARS were still ringing!!
There was also the Michigan spring break, so there were Louisianans, Michiganians, and twirlers..lol.
Actually, I think we're going to miss the Christmas stuff all around, even though it's my favorite time to go (yes, we've been 4 times). Most decs will go up Thanksgiving night (we'll be gone by then) and come down right at the New Year (just as we're coming in).
