And can I recommend not keeping it a surprise? Nobody in my family knows about this trip because 1) they would tell my son and 2) they would kvetch at me about wasting money, which I'm not hearing because I paid cash for it.
It's been very stressful sneaking around and censoring my conversations. And I did have a money issue that was incredibly stressful. The whole trip is paid for in full. I'm self-employed. I was supposed to get a check last week which I was going to use for souvenirs and it never came through, so I was sweating that. I was thinking anything I bought on the trip was going to have to come out of my regular budget. Eek! What's the point of doing extra work if I'm not going to get extra $, KWIM? Then yesterday I got another check, went to cash it, and there weren't sufficient funds! I was so not happy. I did get it cashed yesterday afternoon and got the money in the bank for the trip. But now I don't care. And I think I'll probably be freaking out over every little thing along the way because I had this stress. Boo, hiss!
Plus we're seriously booked this weekend. My son had a sleep-over last night - the one I was supposed to pick him up from and whisk him to the airport, maybe that's feeding my funk - then he has a fair this morning, and an appointment at 12, and a birthday party this afternoon, and a playdate/dinner thing with another friend after that. Phew! Kid's got more of a social life than me! The upside of that is since he can keep up with that schedule he'll be able to keep up with the Disney schedule with no problem.
He has a clue that something is happening, but has no idea what it's about. When his grandmother asked him what he and I did yesterday after school he said "We've been scheming." It was adorable! I hope I can relax tomorrow. But it's more of the same, hiding what's going on. I was depending upon him being out of the house for last minute packing.
Any suggestions about how I can relax? I don't want to keep up this stressful pace on vacation.
I'm feeling your money stress, we leave Sat with alot less money than I had planned. On the 8th our area got hit with a super bad storm they are actually calling an "inland hurricane", we are being called a national disaster area it was that bad. Town is finally getting back to normal but we had no power for 5 days, had to stay 2 nights in a hotel, drive to a different state to find a hotel and hot food. I had gone grocery shopping the morning of the storm and all those groceries went bad, so had to buy more food when the power came back on and eat every meal out during that time. Plus dh and I were both off work for 4 days. So all that adds up to us not having all the money we would like to have. But I look at it as at least we are getting to go. My girls have enough of their own spending money to get what they want so we will be fine. Its just dissapointing.
Ugh! We get ice/snow storms in the winter and sometimes flooding in the spring, so I know what it's like to lose power for a long time. Just not right before leaving on vacation! Like I said, thank goodness everything was paid for in advance, or I would have been really freaking out. The one souvenir I think we're not going to be able to avoid is the make-your-own light saber. No idea what they cost. Suppose I should look them up online so I don't die of shock when we go there.
Today's the day! This time tonight we'll be at the resort! We're all packed. I'm going to stop and get a little cash. I've got to make sure the cat has access to food and water (we'll only be gone 4 nights - he'll be fine by himself for a few days). And watch the weather - it's pouring today, and it got down into the low 40's last night! We've picked the perfect time to go!
Thankfully my funk dissipated. I think getting a good night's sleep helped tremendously! :-) That and knowing that in less than 8 hours we'll be on the plane, so I won't be keeping this secret this much longer. I think I need an award for not spilling the beans! LOL
The build your own light sabers are only $20-$25, alot cheaper than I thought they would be, dd made one last year at DTD, her and dh had a blast putting it together!

You can do it!
I know it is hard.
We will be meeting some internet "friends" 2 weeks from today. I wish I could let my kids participate, but well, the other kids would tell them!
1 more day!

Bahamas was absolutely amazing!
I had SO much fun and was just a bit sad I was running low on cash by the time we got to the straw market, BUT I did get a Coach Bag! LOVE it.
We are already planning next year's cruise!!!
