Marissa from Philly here. . . . As far as how far in advance we plan, I can only go on the one trip we're planning now - two months in advance.

Carma, Iowa

Since DH works every other weekend, we tend to plan all of our trips (camping or otherwise) at least a month or more in advance.

We just figured out when we can go camping in July. (last weekend of July in Iowa, hot hot hot) and plan on figuring out a date out for August.

It also depends on how much time we are going to be taking. Our July trip will be 4 days and 3 nights and about two hours from home. The August trip most likely will be 3 days and two nights and probably only about an hour away.

>>We have been know to start planning our next years vacation while on the current vacation<<

I think if I planned that far ahead, I'd have a hard time sticking to it!

Does it seem that shorter trips (time OR distanse-wise) require less advance planning?

I'm not sure that shorter distance requires less planning. Short duration requires a little less planning. But honestly, I am a major list maker and so I have lists for everything.

Generally we take the same gear, I just have to adjust the meals and what I am taking for clothes.

I think that since we got the dog, we are seeing how far she will travel comfortably. Last year was only a little over an hour from home. The trip that we are going on in July is about two hours from home. (Plus gas, but it shouldn't be nearly as bad.)

Does this mean you've chosen a destination already?
