Have you come up with a holiday budget yet, do you know how much you'll be spending this year?

We'll come up with a budget when DH gets home but last year we had a spreadsheet that we kept track of that had a list of the items the kids wanted, where to find them and where the best prices were. We had a $200 limit last year, I think for each kid. We did really well sticking to it. It also helped us keep track of if something was ordered and whether it came in or not and who it was from *clearing throat* ;)

LOL, that's always tricky isn't it? Do you make sure that each kid gets the same number of presents from "certain" people?

This year will be unique with 3 newborns and DH deployed so I don't foresee too much shopping happening for my part, but for gift-giving occasions we almost always set a budget. Last year I was soooo good and stuck to my budget for him (which was $200 I think) but he had to one up me and went way over. And instead of being grateful I got mad. lol

We have always tried to keep the cost of gifts to nieces and nephews fairly equal, generally no more than $40 each. We also have to ship everything so that adds a unique challenge. I shop exclusively on sale and instead of one big gift I like doing smaller gifts for the kids so they have more to open. I also like wrapping so it gives me more to do. :-)

It's certainly hard to decide whether kids should get the same amount of gifts or the same value. We discovered that Rian had a few big ticket items which came to the max of his budget quick so we had to get a whole lot of little things. We try to even out the amount of gifts to each kid from each person. That way everyone is even. :) With so many kids, we don't really worry about anyone outside our family. We do, however, pick up a little something for DH's parents and a gift card for his sister and brother but that's about it. Xmas gets expensive! :D

Kim, shopping for newborns ought to make for an interesting Xmas! ;) There will definitely be pictures in cute little 1st Christmas outfits but do you plan to get anything like a little trinket for memory purposes? Next year when Christmas rolls around, DH will be deployed again. :( So we're going to try and make the best of this one. Plus we have the kids this year and next we don't so next year it'll be just me and baby.

Definitely going to get each of them a 1st Christmas ornament, and I'll make their stockings. (By "make", I mean writing their names in glue/glitter at the top, although we've selected long names so I don't know if they'll fit!). My mom got me an ornament from a craft festival that says "TRIPLETS" with 3 cute little babies at the top, 2 in pink and 1 in blue! She had it personalized to say "1st Christmas" with each of their names on it. It's really cute. I won't be able to be out and about getting anything else so I have to leave it up to my mom or sister. I just don't see myself leaving them at home, or taking them out since I don't know what weather will be like. :-( I do, however, have Christmas dresses for the girls already, just need something for our little man. Can't wait for Santa pictures!

We're talking about doing Christmas before DH leaves when he's here visiting in November, or doing it next summer when he gets back. I'm thinking it will be easier to do it next summer, but we'll see. Tammy, next year just come hang out with us, what's one more adult and baby in a family the size mine will be? ;-)

Awe! I just love Christmas with kids and the ornaments just sound so cute! :D I always like to get an ornament for each kid for each Xmas and than a family one. That way they have something to take with them when they have their own family. :) Sounds like each will have a very special ornament to take with them! I bought each kid when they were born one of those crossstitch stockings from Lands End with their names on it. I guess I'll be buying another one this year! ;)

Sounds like a plan Kim! I'll fly on out with baby next year! :D He tentaively leaves in June next year but should be back after New Years so I guess we'll be celebrating a month late. The kids will love it, I'm sure. Last year the kids were going with their biological father so we celebrated a few days early...that wasn't so bad. :)

Kim, my dh did that to me also last year by buying me a new camcorder (our first one was over 10 years old). I tried to be mad but it was hard since I really wanted a new one and felt like I've missed recording a lot of my kids life over the past few years.

Are you going to get the triplets a few gifts this year? It's a good time to get them some toys they can use later on.

Tammy, I try to keep it somewhat even as well. It helps that my MIL and my parents are both very aware of keeping things even so I generally don't have to make any adjustments there. It's going to get tough as they get older though and want more costly items.

Those ornaments sound adorable! Ornaments are a great way to to remember the passing years.
