I usually wait until mid to late October, but more out of laziness than desire. We don't have a storage space in our home, so everything is out in the attic of our barn. I have to get on a ladder and bring the boxes down, so I usually put it off. I'm going to try to do it earlier this year!

Ghosting is like the Boo'd kits that you can get at Target.

My neighbor started it a few years ago. She makes up two treat bags, a sign that says "You have been Ghosted" and a cute little poem. She delivers them (secretly) around 8pm when it is dark out.

Then those people make two bags with the sign and poem and delivers them to other families.

The sign you are supposed to put on your front door.

She always starts with us and one other certain family.

We like to pick different families each year and try to customize their treat bags with stuff that the kids would like.

The Mom who starts it always gives us such great stuff. One year in our bag was a candy bowl with the hand that grabs you. One year there was a "spooky" gingerbread house kit and one year she had put two ceremic mugs. Oh and she loads it up with the candy corn taffy.

My DD loves hitting the dollar spot at Target. She loves making fun bags with bubbles, pencils, little note pads, tattoos and other fun little goodies and plenty of candy.

What a great memory for her! :) I'm sure she'll continue the tradition when she has her own house and family!

We've done something similar to "Ghosting", but we kept it among family and friends so the idea is more to drive to their house as opposed to just being in the neighborhood. There aren't too many cool families who would want to do it. ;-)

For me, Halloween decorations can't go out before 10/1 (just like no Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving) but I'd say within the first week I usually have things decorated.

Oct 1 is definitely the day to decorate!! :D

Kim, thank you for the validation to decorate after Thanksgiving because last year, I was decorating the very next day for Christmas! People thought I was nuts but I really enjoyed the decor last year! :D

That's what I like doing! I usually pull out decorations the next day and we'll hang lights by that night. DH thinks I'm crazy for wanting to do it right away, but it allows us to enjoy it longer. Even without kids I put out stockings, put holiday towels in the bathroom and light yummy candles. We usually do the tree that weekend, too. (We have a fake prelit that I absolutely love...got it at KMart 2 years ago after the holidays for $75!)
