Do you worry about food colors on your T'giving plate?

I just thought of this as I was posting a carrot recipe in the other thread. My husband teases me because I have to have several different colored foods with each meal. On Thanksgiving we have so many foods that are in the tan / yellow / orange family:

turkey
gravy
mashed potatoes
bread
stuffing
corn
pineapple souffle
sweet potatoes

I usually do asparagus because it's DH's favorite veggie. Other than that, it's a pretty monochromatic meal. I wanted to add a carrot souffle dish I just saw, but again, more orange.

I usually don't worry about the color on Thanksgiving. But, our spread includes:

Turkey

Mashed Potatoes or mashed potato casserole (yum)

Stuffing

Green Beans/green bean casserole

Sweet potatoes

Gravy (sometimes Giblet, but not too many ppl in my immediate family likes it)

Rolls

Cranberry Sauce

And pies.

I never thought about "colors" myself on Thanksgiving. Last year was mine and my DH's first Thanksgiving as a married couple and I cooked for both of our parents, and my mother in law is a registered dietician and she was worried about me having "too many potatoes" because we had sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes (I consider sweet potatoes a dessert and she considers it s side dish.....whatev. lol). I guess we all have our traditions and ideas of what Thanksgiving should be like, and apparently mine just has way more carbs. :smileyvery-happy:

The green bean bundles sound good!

I make a green bean dish that also has sauteed mushrooms, chopped walnuts, dill and some lemon juice. Maybe I'll make that this year too!

I used to love green bean casserole, until someone made it with canned green beans. Now DD makes her green bean bundles that are sooo good!

LOL Kellie you're so funny! I guess I hadn't thought about it but now that I am...wow, our plates are pretty boring. Although, I love Cranberry sauce so it's a nice pop of color on the plate! :)

Yum! A pineapple souffle sounds good!

But, I agree with you that multi-colors are good for a meal and get a little sad when I look down at the plate and see so much tan, yellow & orange - which seems to be most common for me. Maybe that's why green bean casseroles are so popular for Thanksgiving?
