4-H Achievement Day...

Our district had their Achievement Day for all 4th-12th graders in 4-H.
I feel pretty clueless when it comes to 4-H because even though I was in it 2 years, I wasn't THAT involved in it (I never went to an Achievement Day and I didn't show anything), and a lot has changed anyway, and we don't get a lot of feedback from her school on it.
So, what I do know about Achievement Day is that pairs of students can present "how-tos" (I learned that from my students when I was student teaching, they can sing a song as a group (my current school did so and so did Aly's school). I figured they'd also give awards for students who show animals and stuff.
Aly wasn't doing anything other than the group song. Or so we thought...
When they got there, whatever books (projects) they completed, they had to take a test on that booklet. Aly had chosen 2 at the beginning of the year, Discovering 4-H (required of first-year 4-Hers) and Play the Role. She ended up returning Play the Role--it wasn't something she could do on her own, and that's what they had to do (they're supposed to make smaller groups within the club, but our schools aren't designed to do that kind of thing--they do the club activities DURING the school day).
Now, the books were turned in 2 months ago--we haven't seen the book since then. She LOVED the activities in Discovering 4-H, though. Very nature-oriented and she is such a nature-lover.
Well, I didn't know she had to take the test, and before I left my school, I found out that our club got first place in Sing & Yell Content-Junior High Division and third place overall-Junior High Division. So, when Aly got home, I asked if her CLUB won anything.
She tells me, "I won a first place award." I said, "Your school got first place in the sing & yell or for the overall?" (She would be elementary division.) "No, *I* got an award for Discovering 4-H." Out of all of the elementary students taking the test (all 4th graders in the entire district (she has about 20 from her school) and some 5th graders), she got the highest score on the test!
So, just had to brag!! On Aly and on my students. ;o)
