The scoutmaster's family feels verys strongly about supporting this organization and they offered to any scout in the troop and any family member that they would register for and pay the entry fee for anyone who would be willing to come and do this 5K in town.  They got 14 people signed up!  It is a non-scout event, but I'm glad to see so many have taken them up on the offer.

There is a volunteer firemans 5K in early June that I think they are participating in as scouts and any scout who completes the 5K (walking or running) the reward from the scoutmaster's own pocket is a troop t-shirt and an ice cream at Dairy Queen.  Sean did this last year and got the shirt, but we are still waiting on the ice cream... I suspect it will occur right before this year's race rolls around.

Sean got 3rd place in his age group. 1st and 2nd also went to scouts in his troop. It was nice to see! Unfortunately, we couldn't stay for awards because we had to get to the science fair where he and his partner (a walker in the race for a 1.5 mile distance) had to present to a panel of judges. So, one of the other boys got his award and brought it over to the school and gave it to us (just as he was getting up for the science presentation judges!) He didn't place at the science fair, but I think they thought the project was fun... what method preserves bananas from rotting the longest... freezer, vacume sealing, or letting it set out on the table... turns out that for the 20-some days that sitting on the table resulted in the most well preserved banana... the freezer one got really mushy and the vacume sealed one made the bag expand to nearly popping, and it started foaming. That's all!

Congrats to Sean for doing so well in the race. His science fair project sounds interesting. My boys have never had to participate in a science fair.
