Our crossover picnic

I guess that in all previous years, it's only been a picnic, with crossover happening at the pack meeting the month of April, but it got pushed back. It was from 6:00-8:00. So we show up around 6:05 because we don't like to be late, but we know they never get started on time. I think only a handful of leaders were there with their kids. They got the boys playing ultimate frisbee and most adults avoided the area like the plague rather than joining in like the pack leader wanted. (I was a goalpost.) The little kids didn't get the idea of tiny short throws for the frisbee from kid to kid...but they had fun anyway. New kids were invited...those joining upper levels and those who were going to start tigers. Anyway, the picnic itself started around 7pm...It was hard to keep mac n cheese warm that long! It was nice and everyone mostly brought something to share. Then they went down to the little bridge and walked the groups across one at a time to get their new neckerchiefs and books. It was funny to see parents running back across the bridge so they could cross over with other sons in different levels. My friend said it was the best crossing they ever did.
We are getting at least 2 or 3 new kids in our den. unfortunately, the soap opera hasn't slowed down with other kids and their families. The mom brought the boys down, decided she wasn't staying so she took them to Wendy's. When the dad got there, he asked where his son's were. I hadn't seen them so he called her cell. They were playing in their backyard (on my street) so he came up to get them. She called the cops and told them they were taken without her permission by the dad who had joint custody (just not for those minutes) and they called him, but he refused to bring them back till the bridging was over. So, there the cop cars sat on our street waiting to see if he would return his own kids. He's got a hearing this week and he's filing for full custody. I really hope he gets it even though he will never be parent of the year or anything. Anyway...that was the worst even though some others had issues too.
That was our picnic...No rain or wind like Cheryl's!
