Boy Talk for the cubs was yesterday.  Typically I have emails and calls right away.  Only one call.  We have the round-up meeting on Sunday.

I was out helping another Pack with their round up last night.  They didn't need me, but it was nice to talk to them and see what another group is doing,

The Webelos are heading out to a weekend camp.  The entire pack was invited, but only Webelos signed up.  I'm off to the store to buy all of the stuff.  yippee.

Yeah to another year!

We have our first den meeting(s) tomorrow (Monday) night same time as the Boy Scout meeting... however it's going to be a tight squeeze since we also have a cross country meet that my boys are participating in about a half an hour away and I have to be back for the 7pm scout meetings.  We have 2 Tigers and the dad of one who would actually do stuff with them is out of the country for the week.  We may or may not have 1 Wolf (homeschooled, but below grade level) that I'm going to throw him in with the Tigers if he ever comes).  Both the other Tiger and the Wolf parents are kind of running crazy with toddlers and babies, so I see no future in any of their parents stepping up to lead.  And the dad who probably will is moving at the end of this school year- but hasn't told the kids yet.  So, I have to have some sort of an activity/meeting for them to do on their own with their adult partner that's self explanitory and we will see how it goes!  I'm not being their leader.  And I of course have to have a meeting ready for the 4 Webelos and 2 Bears who are just going to join us in doing whatever we do because they don't have a leader either.  So, I'll be planning meetings tonight for tomorrow!

We have roundup next week... I don't know if the council remembered about flyers for my kids Catholic school yet- but at least I know they are doing boy talks and flyers for the public school that has our pack's info as well as the info of the other 3 packs in the area.  I guess I have to do roundup too.

The last weekend of the month, I got our pack invited to a multi-pack family camping trip from about two towns down the road.  The leaders are really great people who are the ones who often help staff day camp and lead stuff at roundtable, so I'm very happy to have gotten us invited!  I hope many in my pack will go since it's pretty close!

For Boy Scouts- my son only needs to get the scoutmaster to mark off that he has invited a friend to a meeting (which he refused to do before).  I don't know if it will work out.  A friend of mine found a boy who quit our pack (and I didn't really like the family anyway) for Sean to invite, but that seems like parents doing the work of inviting and spoonfeeding it to the kid rather than what has authentically already happened.  Then he just need scoutmaster conference for completing First Class.  I hate to see a motivated kid held back for something like this.

For GIRL SCOUTS, I have had contact with most of the girls at the end of the summer and they all still want to continue as a troop, however my current 9th graders are now scattered far and wide since they all graduated from the Catholic K-8 school.  I still have 4 girls still there, so I'll probably have a few meetings after school and some in the evenings and some on weekends???  I'm looking for a cabin we can rent for a weekend in October to do some stuff.  I also need to find the dates of a few things we like to participate in so they can make their plans.  I also contacted a new family who gave their info to the GS office... they just moved here a few weeks ago and their 9th grader wanted to continue with scouts, so I think she will fit in, but I have yet to meet her.  I also have a mom of a girl in 6th grade who wants her daughter to join my troop, but she would be the very youngest, and I'm not real sure I want to go there... there has to be someone else leading a troop of middle age girls?  Her troop decided to disband this year and I feel bad for her, but I can only extend my reach so far.  But I do want to help others... I'm feeling conflicted... if I added her, I'd have 6th thru 12th grade with a total of 14 girls... and she wouldn't be able to make it to any of our after school meetings because her school doesn't get out for nearly 45 minutes after we would start.

Well everyone, welcome to a new scouting year!  And like one of my other posts said- if you have a Boy Scout or Cub Scout, go check out that advancement tracker... Scoutbook.com... I really am liking it!

I was told the camping trip was fun. I went down on Saturday from 8-8. I enjoyed my time with the boys. Only 4 scouts /parents went on Friday. At 9:00 on saturday we had 5. 3 more came in between 1:00-3:00. One family had to cancel at the last minute because the mom was sick. By the time she realized she just wasn't going to be able to do it all of us were already there. DH is sick now. He was feeling bad on Thursday and has gotten worse each day. He ended up coming home from work already today. Our Roundup wasn't very successful for new members. We only had one scout turn in an application. We have two possible transfers, but they are still visiting packs. There were 13 other families there. They are looking to see if they can swing the schedule. Some of the issue is parents being with tigers at meetings. We'll see. D's den starts back today. I need to get my stuff ready. We have the newly merged dens meeting together for the first time to do "boring stuff" ie breakdown of the year and start Webelos Rank requirements. J's troop kicks it back up tonight. It's back to the official uniform and traditional meetings vs. fishing, swimming, etc at the lake at the meeting location. We don't have a pack campout on the fall schedule. We just went this weekend. Jack and I don't have the time in our schedule for an October camp. I'm debating bringing up the idea to rent a cabin for a winter camp. Otherwise we will not have camping until spring & that turn-out is always poor due to sports. It seems like every tome your pack is looking up you hit a bump. Are you counting for crossover to BS yet? I know I have been counting for way too long. As much as I enjoy this time with Donovan and his scout friends I really want us in one place. I told Jeremiah who to invite to his meeting. We knew the kid would not join, but J was so limited on friends at that age - especially ones who were not already in scouts that DH and I didn't really care. It's kinda hard to find a friend to show interest in scouts at that age if they have not already been there, done that. I hope you can find a cabin for the GS weekend. That will be nice for all of you :) I didn't realize you had a scout who was that old in your GS troop. I admire that you are willing to mix so many age level programs with your group. It's just too much for me to want to deal with when the requirements are different. Tiger and Wolf together wasn't so bad when I did that, but I'm not willing to have go with a big gap. That's some serious work.
