Waiting on a call

Board of Reviews are scheduled for Wednesday this coming week since lots of the younger boys would be needing them since most got stuff done to advance a rank over summer camp time.  So, the scoutmaster told the boys that they would need to call him and set up a time to do their scoutmaster reviews in order to be considered for the Board of Review.  Since Sean's friend surprisingly showed up to the scout meeting this past Monday (after they all had to leave school early and go to an away cross country meet in the rain), Sean finished his last requirement for First Class.  So, he called Tuesday to set up the meeting... I had him follow up with an e-mail on Thursday morning since leaving a message got him nowhere.  He got a reply that the scoutmaster would be home by 6pm on Friday and we could go then... well, we called, and sent text messages to the cell phone, but there's still no response and it's now 7:15pm and we are still waiting to see if we should drive over.  Same deal on the doctor who is merit badge counselor for personal fitness... Sean called him on Tuesday as well to set up the first meeting... he asked what time-frame and he said he wanted to get started this weekend or the coming week... doc said he would call us back to agree on date/time... still waiting.  I guess their meeting went well... it was mostly about what they were planning for the year.  Sean's friend said he wanted Sean to get his requirement done and that's why he came, but he enjoyed being there with all the boys... I still don't think he will join... they were in cub scouts.

The Cub Scout meeting was also Monday night.  I was the only leader and I knew that the cubmaster wouldn't be able to get his kid there (Bear level).  I also knew the one Tiger was coming with Grandpa, so I planned to have the 4 Webelos look in their books and go over the Webelos Rank requirements.  I think I'm going to assign each boy to become an expert on 2 parts of the rank requirements like  handshake and parts of webelos badge for one kid and then each kid can "review" their things with the others so that they can have some ownership and team building and I get a minute break in not having to talk!  I planned for the Tigers to do the leaf rubbing and I gathered some cool leaves at home first in case it was still raining.  Only 1 Tiger showed and we had 1 younger sibling so I had the 2 of them get some leaves, make some rubbings, then paste one of them onto a blank card to make a greeting card.  Only 3 Webelos showed up, so we did our stuff and then I had all 4 boys make drawings that I'd like to have somehow combined onto a Pack t-shirt... but I want to get something on from each boy... I e-mailed everyone about what they missed and told them when I wanted the drawings and I've not had any response what-so-ever... not e-mail or anything about the shirts or anything else.

oh- the phone just rang... gotta go to the scoutmaster conference... I'll write more later.

Scoutmaster was just sitting outside on his patio the whole time without a phone.

Sean had a nice review... I had to sit in on it since there was nobody else around.  Then we showed him what we have been playing around with for the Scoutbook.com advancement tracker and he seemed impressed.

Still no responses from any of the cub families about things I need them to respond about... I know these people all check e-mail... if they don't respond, their kids are just going to miss out.

As long as my kids are happy and I'm content they are doing good things, then I just can't let other people's stuff bother me.

Have a good day Everyone!!!  Happy Scouting!

Glad the Scoutmaster conference went well. :) It sounds like the cub meeting was a good one. We are working on Webelos requirements, too. I started the boys on the religion aspect of it, too. I hope they are doing something at home. I'm wanting to review one more meeting and then have it done. We start fitness in October. Athlete will be optional & will be running at the same time. The parent who is running athlete was going to start it clear back in June, but just didn't get it going. D's den is in pretty good shape. I have enough parents helping to be able to relax a bit at some of the meetings. The pack is a different story. The future treasurer did get YP and an application completed. She needs to take committee training. The future popcorn kernal decided to back out. Still no taker on Cub Master, Committee Chair, Secretary, or Advancement Chair. We also need a BALOO to train in the spring. The Bear leader has not set up meetings yet - I'm not sure if the assistant is helping. The new wolf leader is on the move. Her assistant still is not registered / trained. I'm still looking for a Tiger leader, but I am feeling good about the Tiger parents. I am so crossing my fingers. I meet with them for their first den meeting on Tuesday. I think we are going to have 13. Surely 13 families can figure out how to hold the meetings and track what the kids have earned. I start the troop advancement position October 1. Things have been so crazy around here with DH's work schedule, TKD, scouts (pack, den, troop, district, roundup), & adjusting to school starting. J's school extracurricular stuff is starting. That is 3 days a week after school. He's going to struggle with having time for homework. Enough of that! On to the fun stuff. D's den had a fun camping weekend. DH wants to get out with them again because it was so fun :) I'm not sure when he will be able to fit it in, but it needs done. Some of D's closest friends are in his den and it makes it a joy to see him hang with friends and learn at the same time.

Ugh!  I replied to this the other day, but it's not here.  Oh well.

I'm too tired to respond again... but good luck Cheryl... people will step up once they realize that their kid isn't going to be able to do stuff since there is nobody in charge.  I told the bookfair lady the same thing... and one or two other things at the school... they need to just plain quit doing it... because their kid is already gone... and someone else will step up.

Well, have a nice day!

It's ok. I tried to reply and couldn't get logged in. I don't think the boards are ever going to be what they once were. We picked up the pack popcorn on Friday. Our kernal ordered 7000.00 in pre-sale. That is about 1/2 of what the pack is hoping to sell. D worked a booth in the evening. His share was 218.00. He has 70.00 in his take order sales. There is a booth opening next week that I think he is going to take. That will get his totals where we need them for the pack. We ask each scout to sell $275.00-300.00. I like for D to go over that to make up for someone who does not sell or who does not meet the level. J did not get any pre-order items to sell from the troop. He'll get all of Jack's work orders & then he will need to do some door sales to get the level we asked him to for his camp fund. The troop went climbing and repelling over the weekend. The boys are getting close to having the requirements met for the climbing mb. He was able to get one of the cooking mb requirements done. I don't know if he worked on anything for camping or not. It's hard to keep track of all of the different bits and pieces. Tonight is the troop Court of Honor. It will be brutally long with all of the summer camp awards being given out. On the awards note...I offically take over advancement at the next meeting.
