Any interesting Service Projects coming up?

Maybe you are the problem... that was my advice to the daisy leader above. Let them see that you don't get it all together because nobody will do something when it's getting done just fine. Parent volunteers seem to be the immense problem to kid programs. There is just no good way to make it happen. And I have found out that even the ones that are "reliable and willing" I can't rely on so much either. Just hope for the best. I know our neighbor's grandson is doing an eagle project soon. I know this because the grandpa came over with a flyer about the project and spaghetti dinner... not because the troop has publicized this with the kids/parents. I asked the scoutmaster about it and he said that they just got approval for the project 2 days previous, so the fundraising wasn't approved yet and he couldn't tell the kids about it until all was approved. I kind of think this is a disservice to the kids/families since we don't even know this is coming up... kind of like a "keep the date" we hope this works out for us, then later saying- "yes, it's a go!" But whatever... I really like this boy and I hope he does very well. He also is very good with the younger guys in the troop. I wasn't at the troop meeting last night, but the one the week previous, the oldest ranking boy who was there for opening was a 6th grader of 1st class rank (it was high school musical week I guess, but not everyone was in the musical). I guess that's always going to haunt me... that there are lean years of recruitment in our troop and pack. Sean's group was "the oldest" attending in the pack for 2 years... so it's now showing at the troop level. [Ok- I've now figured out that these long rambling posts today are a sign of procrastination for me... I need to get my butt out of this chair, and get dressed and drive to the state park and go pick up the orienteering flags that are still in the woods from an event we had Sunday, during the decent weather, and now I don't want to go since it will be cold, wet, muddy, miserable, thorny, swampy, lots of giant hills, and long difficult walks to get to each one.
