You've had a busy 1st half of the month :)

I hope you have a terrific crossover. I'm glad you found an archer. It should be pretty impressive for the boys.

Take it easy on your road trip.

Here's the update since we are halfway through March!

1GS meeting was really fun doing activities from Savannah!

4- Cookie Booth went well- plenty of parents/girls- sold 114 boxes.

I think a belt loop academy based on sports would not work because each one is mostly practice the skills for a half hour or so and then you have to play a game... and many must be outdoor (which is good, but hard to base an academy on). I half wonder if they even looked at the requirements of the belt loops before they decided to do a belt loop academy last fall based on sports??? Our pack isn't really offering any "extras" at the moment. In the past, we have done days for bowling, ultimate, kickball maybe, fishing, flag football, and maybe others that I don't recall. We just have SO LITTLE parent involvement that nothing is really happening... i'm very sad about this.

We've had the best luck with the loops that can be earned in one sitting ie Art, geography, astronomy. Any of the ones that require charting (weather) rarely gets finished by the scout.

We've not offered sports at the academy for the past 3 years. The pack offers sports through-out the year. We have fishing, basketball, bowling, biking, & hiking every year. We typically rotate one other sport in the mix.

Hope she has good luck at the competition. :)

It turns out Emma made it into the Finals for a Forensics competition which is the same day as the Mall Event- and up till this point, the girls have given me no indication that they want to plan anything except "ya, let's do it" but nothing beyond that- and I've not gotten parents to come help recently since we've had so much going on at school... so we will go to mall event on our own and hang out after the forensics competition.

Our most successful belt loop academy (and the only one we've ever had) was held right after my Web 2's moved from Bear to Web 1's... we didn't have a group ahead of us at all... so we were really the oldest in the pack for more than 2 years. We billed it as giving the Web's a jump start on earning parts of many Webelos badges- and it was all new stuff for each of the younger boys. We had a parent from each of the 4 dens lead the belt loop (chosen by me and the web leader at that time). So, that got parents involved. Most kids came.

Another group of adults decided that we should have had one this past fall (about 16 months after the first one) and it should be more sports belt loops... but besides choosing a potential day- they made no progress. Then our pack committee decided to try to run one this spring and we got a mom/dad who said they would chair it... if we pick the day and tell them what belt loops they should do. I haven't had any luck getting them or their son to come to anything since December. Seeing as how the 3 potential days we chose are coming up real soon... I just don't think it will fly either.

I have not scheduled the Pack Committee Meeting for March. We really don't need a committee meeting for the pack as much as we need a blue and gold planning meeting.

You are so nice to come to Ohio to help with an event. :)

Love the GS cookie booth at a BS event - lol.

Is your mall event a swap or are you running an activity booth?

We might bump our belt loop academy next year. It's not always easy to staff. The turn-out for older scouts is terrible. This year we had BS leaders come in to talk about what type of gear the boys need for troop camping. We thought we would have a good turn-out. Even that didn't get the boys / parents there. I'm not sure if it is because it is December, becasue the boys are getting ready to leave the Pack or what.

1- Girl Scout meeting- doing activities we learned in Savannah

4- Cookie Booth 12:30-4 (during my 2nd grader's only basketball game of the year- need to find more adults to run this)

6- Pack Committee Meeting

8- Roundtable (Skipping GS meeting, having them come to Roundtable to set up cookie booth and hopefully win prize for most unique booth sale location- should I dress in girl scout or boy scout clothing???)
