We have a new survey regarding some topics in education that we'd love to get your thoughts on.

It's a hard poll to answer since some of it is asking about communication with classroom teachers - school. My kids are at 2 different schools AND it is only the 3rd day of school. I did my best.

Thanks, Cheryl! It wouldn't let me take the survey. :( I got as far as telling it what grades my children were in, and then it ended. I'll pass your feedback on that it was a bit difficult to answer.

I also took the survey. It was hard to answer some questions because I don't have high school kids- such as how much should the parent be held accountable if the child is truant... if the parent sends a kid to school and the kid leaves/doesn't go in... then no- not the parents responsibility, if the parent just doens't bother making the kid go... then yes. Also for homework, and communication- hard to have 1 answer with 3 kids... some of mine need more parent involvement in studying/homework and teacher communication... some kids (even in the same family) need much less or none. Also, there was nothing to indicate what type of school your child attends... just the grades level... going to a Catholic school- my answers would be probably quite different from others.

Thanks! I'll pass this on as well.

I feel the same way about truancy. If I drop my child off at school and see him enter the building, I assume he's in class. Our school district has a new online system where if a child is not in class, the parent can get notified within minutes. It was really interesting!

Found this survey frustrating. Asking how many hours I help my child on homework, did I check it, etc.

She's a HS sophomore in the top 1% of her class. No, I don't micromanage her every minute. That would be insulting. She knows she can come to me if she needs me. And, she's been taught over the years how to be responsible, organized, etc. At this age, if I NEEDED to be constantly involved, there's a problem!

But, I can take this approach because of her personality and work ethic. If I had a kid who wasn't automatically taking care of what needed to be done, I'd be more involved.

There really wasn't anywhere on the survey where you could type a comment more than about 10 words. So, I ended up looking like an extremely uninvolved, hands off parent - which isn't really the case.
