I just don't feel I'm ready for another cookie season.

Oh no! What bad timing for delivery! I put an order in with my niece. I didn't even ask when they would be in. I imagine it would be that same week. I guess I won't be giving up chocolate this year!

A lot of the kids in our church and their families practice giving up something Monday thru Saturday and on Sunday's during Lent, they celebrate and are allowed to partake in whatever the pleasure is... tv, or chocolate, or video games. The reasoning is that even God rested and enjoyed the day on Sunday. I'm hoping that people will buy anyway!

Well, after our after school activities, we made it door to door to 4 houses with people home and 2 who didn't answer... and then it was too dark to continue. She also knabbed 1 mom in the parking lot after school, but the first mom that she wanted to ask... I don't know what happened... she kinda had her order form hidden under her coat and got all shy and never did do the "ask"... so she didn't sell any to her yet. I told her she's big enough that she needs to do it and I'm not going to do the selling for her... and if she doesn't she won't sell any cookies at all. Temps were in the low 50's and I was out without my jacket... a first for cookie sales! Tomorrow, highs are supposed to be in the mid 40's I think... and I couldn't be more excited! This is the mildest weather yet for door to door sales. I also hope to get my Christmas outside lights taken down (maybe while she is selling to the closest neighbors?)!!!

Only problem is that my youngest started throwing up tonight and both the boys have to make their pinewood derby cars this weekend since the race is only 1 week away! WHY, OH WHY is everything in such a rush right after Christmas???

I've always thought the timing of the cookie sale is not the smartest.

Ask people to order cookies, right after the holidays when they've overindulged in goodies, and are making resolutions to be more healthy. Not the best timing.

Then, have them come in for booth sales right at lent.

Plus, you basically don't get any money to operate for most of the year this way.

Much smarter if we would put the cookie sale in the fall, imo...

That said - - we ended up with over 70 boxes sold on the first day on our sheets. So...apparently SOME people are hungry for them!

My daughter and I went door to door on Sunday and she was up to about 85 boxes total, but she lost 6 or 7 houses that always bought from her because there is another girl scout now.

The rejection is brutal for the kids and some people are so mean the way they say no.

Lots of people buy in our neighborhood, but they buy from the first boy to get there - even though they have purchased from my boys for years. It really made the boys sad to have someone say no that they thought would be a yes based on past says.
