There are going to be 3 available Journeys at each level.

The first series was in 2008-2009, "It's your world, change it." - a leadership theme.

This year, 2009-2010 the theme was "It's Your Planet - Love it!" and they were environmentally themed.

Next year's (2010-2011) will be "It's Your Story - Tell It!" and I am not sure exactly what that is going to be.

My understanding is that these will be the only Journeys published at this time, and that next year is the final set in the series.

OK so as of right now there are 2 journeys available...BUT brownies is only 2 yrs long and the diagram for the uniform only has placement for 2 on the vest. one on each front side panel. wheres a 3rd going to fit!? my girls might have to add a sash in next yr for space for try-its!

if there is going to be a 3rd...then i better get cracking over the summer to accomplish the first 2!

You don't need to earn every Journey any more than you ever had to earn every badge or Try It offered.

They are meant to be options to choose from, not a list of things you must accomplish.

Not that you can't earn all three if that's what your girls want to do.
But, I don't think you need to feel a pressure to get them all done.

It's hard to let girls make a decision on which Journey to do without spending money (we live too far from service center to get there to look at them).

My troop did the Brownie Quest the year it came out. We did not do one this year (any of my three levels). Next year, we will do a Journey as part of Bronze Award.....but if we have three options, I'm not sure which we'll do. The troop owns a copy of one so it'd make sense financially to do that one. But I like giving the girls the options.

Does anyone know why GS developed the Journeys to begin with?

I am not feeling pressure by the girls or council but by parents.

i have the info/book for the quest brownie level. Frankly i didnt want to do it because its something that takes weeks to complete. our girl attendence is very sparatic and many will miss one or more steps/activities then get lost in what is going on or just show up at the end.

i would be happy doing try-its, community service, fun patches and cookies. once the parents get word of something they want thier child to earn it.

our council does not have the "smart cookie"(tagalong image) Try-it BUT the cookie mom(a parent) ordered it and wants us to earn it. bless her heart she means well BUT she also ordered a whole bunch other fun patches etc for us to "fit in" somewhere. of course i offered to pay her back with troop funds but she said No. the parents get a hold of info from council or a glance through a book and start talking about how this or that is so easy we can knock out 2/3 try-its per meeting.

we earn one try-it per meeting sometimes a fun patch as well. the girls still have ALL of next yr as Brownies!

Can nicely suggest that they run the meetings when they come up with patches and activities that they want the troop to do? I don't think there is anything wrong with having parents do that. And as a side benefit, they may not bring these things up.

I don't like the journeys, I would not do them if I didn't have to. I like the try-its and other level patches better. There is much more freedom for any troop to pick from all the subjects to choose from. Not to mention more fun.

My understanding is that it made everyone's GS experience the same all over the country, if we are doing these journeys. Why that is good I don't know--but having a similar gs experience is supposed to be a benefit.

Also they are supposed to be easier for leaders to do in a meeting--because of the way they set them up, everything is pretty self explanatory for the leader to go through it with the troop. Since getting volunteers is hard, this is a selling point.

i have no problem with letting parents run Try-its. altough the parents might have problems. which may ease pressure if they get wind of "required help".

we have one official meeting before summer when we slow to one meeting per month. i may let this patch hungry mom choose a try-it to lead...along with her pizza party fun patch we will be getting that day as well.

i like having girls earn just one try-it per meeting. its not about them being rushed to complete something for patch earning purposes BUT for them to learn things and absorb it.

side note of journeys-they are layed out pretty easy(the quest anyhow) BUT its the planning, then carrying out of actvity that takes up time. alot of take home work then bring back work kind of stuff. each step/key would take a meeting or 2.
