Our Council has decided that each Service Area must provide two "series" for the Girls.

Right now, we have three planned and two more in works. We have at least 4 other one-day events planned too (movie days for Family Partnership) and bowling and cookie rally and curling. We may merge the bowling event with a fall product rally.

Our Service Area is going to have a Group this year.....instead of having about 7 Juliettes, they will be part of a Group.....shared checking account, etc....and they can contact one another and say, "hey, I"m working on this project -- do you want to help?" and "I'm going to go to this event, want to come along?"  It should be interesting and I"m hoping it works out as well as I think it will. The girls involved seem excited about it so far....

I'm excited about a new year. We need to find more members for our Service Team. Right now, it's only me and one other woman (who has been treasurer since pre-children and she is now expecting #2!)

 

Part of me feels badly because my daughter is helping with all of this....and while I know she enjoys it all, I do wonder if she's doing too much service and not enough stuff for her own age level.

We didn't track her service to GSing hours last year. We started counting hours last week with a planning meeting she attended....then she got invited to help at a Kick-Off event for leaders today...and she's helping run a program at a daycare center here three Mondays in August plus a day camp for 9 hours later in month.  Let's just say she'll have over 20 hours of service to GSing in one month's time.

She wants to earn her LIA and PA awards, but we may not have an area Brownie troop doing a Journey this year for the LiA and the PA training seems to only be offered at summer day camps.....and she attended a two-week wildnerness trip camp this summer at resident camp.

Our PA trainings are pretty much only held as a weekend event several times a year, but a group of girls wanted to earn it before day camp this summer and the available weekend wasn't good for them so we got a trainer to agree to do a PA training on 2 consecutive Friday nights and on a Sunday afternoon (outdoor portion).  It worked well enough.

 

Also, we didn't have a single brownie troop in our service area last year, so my girls got approval to do their LIA (which is a prerequisite for PA and I think that's kind of backwards) with a Daisy troop while helping them and their new leader do a journey. 

 

Our SU doesn't even have an SU manager.  There is a group of us leaders who just kind of all plan some events.  And we can pretty much count on someone agreeing (not very happily) to be cookie or fall product manager for our area... easier to do since it's all online now.  I know scouting is way down in our area for numbers.  I don't know what's going to happen.  I do know all the kickoff things are going on now and I'm trying to avoid some of them!
