FIRST-EVER STUDIO 2Bsm WEB CAST
SPONSORED BY WESTFIELD SHOPPINGTOWNS
Find Out More, Voice Your Thoughts, Shape the Future
WHAT: The first-ever STUDIO 2B Web cast is about to launch! This “virtual” meeting will showcase more about this new program and provide an interactive forum for you to share your opinions and ideas about what the future holds for Girl Scouts and STUDIO 2B.
A Web cast is content that is streamed over the Internet that you can view from your desktop computers. This Web cast will have a chat component that allows you, volunteers, and girls the opportunity to ask questions and have them answered in real time. The event will be broadcast live from the Westfield Shoppingtown in Meridian, Connecticut. Join us from your own computer as we broadcast this interactive meeting.
Here’s what we will be talking about:
· Further development of the STUDIO 2B program
We want feedback from Web cast participants to help guide us in further development of the STUDIO 2B program to truly meet the needs of today’s girls.
· Highlights of our recent research study, Ten Emerging Truths About Girls
This study provides insights on what girls say they want and offers information on how we can help them get it. If you don’t have it already, you can download the executive summary from the Girl Scout Web site.
· Bringing the STUDIO 2B messages to girls and volunteers
WHO: All Girl Scouts across the nation are invited! This meeting is a chance for girls, leaders, volunteers, and council staff to gain a greater understanding of STUDIO 2B and to help shape its future.
Our host will be one of our favorite young adults, Sara Shandler, author and editor of Ophelia Speaks, a book about teen issues told through the voices of the girls themselves. Currently an associate editor at Seventeen magazine, Sarah will discuss the importance of writing in one’s own voice and making that voice is heard. She will also encourage girls to express their thoughts and feelings through writing and journalizing.
WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 2003, from 1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. EDT
The online chat may continue afterwards, and we will apprise you by May 1.
WHERE: Log onto the GSUSA Web site at www.girlscouts.org, where there will be a direct link to the Web cast.
HOW: To access the Web cast, all participants will need Windows Media Player installed on their computers. If you do not already have Windows Media Player, you can download it for free at
Note: It may take up to 30 minutes to completely install this software, so please plan ahead. Be sure to log onto the site a couple of minutes prior to the event.
MORE: Here is additional information about the Web cast and how it can help you and your council achieve your goals for reaching girls ages11-17:
What is special about the STUDIO 2B Web cast?
The STUDIO 2B Web cast will help you educate your constituency about STUDIO 2B and its benefits to girls ages11-17. Because the Web cast is “public” (people other than Girl Scouts will be able to access it), we hope that it will drive both girl and adult membership. All content will be cached (“saved”) for a designated period of time. You will be able to reference the content and show board members, potential funders, etc., how exciting and relevant this new program is for today’s girls.
What is the format of the Web cast?
The Web cast will be similar to a TV talk show. Sara Shandler, our host, will interview several girls on stage and take questions from the studio audience. Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts, Connecticut Trails Council, the council closest to the mall, will be in the audience.
Will there be more Web casts?
Girl Scouts of the USA is currently planning a second Web cast for November 2003. Plenty of notice as to format, content, etc. will be sent out in the summer.
We will be sending all councils further details on how to access the “cached” chat as soon as possible.
How can I access the chat if I can’t attend online?
The content and video of the Web cast will be available for 90 days after the event.
Enjoy the Web cast!
(Wouldn't it be great if they got an earful of what most of us think about 2B?? ROFLOL!)
